My favourite musicians: Rhythm sections

edited February 2011 in Musicians
The bass players discussion veered off a bit into rhythm sections, so I got to think about my favourite rhythm sections:

William Parker and Hamid Drake
Charles Mingus and Dannie Richmond
Scott LaFaro or Charlie Haden or Gary Peacock and Paul Motian
Jaco Pastorius and Peter Erskine (with or without Bobby Thomas Junior)
Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare

Sorry, that was me going off topic.

Bill Bruford and Chris Squire (Yes) especially on 'Close to the Edge' and Chris Squire's album 'Fish Out Of Water' are my favourite, Squire is almost heavy handed and Bruford so light, but they always keep the rhythm moving.

John Bonham and John Paul Jones are right up there too for me, as well as the others I mention on the previous thread.

Danny Carey and Justin Chancellor in Tool are a remarkable pair if anyone here has heard them, the album 'Lateralus' has such amazing playing on it, especially 'Parabola' and 'Ticks and Leeches'.
