Is that Jaco Pastorius' Word of Mouth Band?
  • Dave - should've really said it's the 'Jaco Pastorius Big Band' who, under the leadership of Peter Graves formed a 'tribute' band to the great JP. Guests on the album include trumpeters
Randy Brecker and Arturo Sandoval, guitarists Hiram Bullock and Mike
Stern, tenor saxophonists Ed Calle and Bob Mintzer, drummers Peter
    Erskine and Robert Thomas, Jr.

    Not a bad line-up ;)
  • Wow! Not too shabby. I'll have to look that one out.

The Jaco album, Word of Mouth is one of my very favourite albums.
  • Abdullah Ibrahim - Banyana (The Children of Africa)
  • One of mine too, Dave. :)
  • Joshua Redman - Compass
  • You seem to like that one.
  • I thought that as I posted.  It is getting more than it's fair share of air play at the moment.
  • Well, I'm listening to AP at the VV, just for a change.
  • Sounds verra nace through the new DAC  :)
  • I must get round to yours to hear all this new fangled - watchimacallit it dig-it-al? stuff.  You'll have to explain it all to me though :)
  • I thought you knew more about digital than I do...

But, yes. Let's find a slot. I have an operation next month and may be out of action for about two weeks. Before that, I have a number of pre-op things to do, so there are a few times booked out of my diary, on top of work things.
  • We'll work it out I'm sure.
  • I'm sure we will.

    David Sylvian - Blemish
  • You (New) Romantic, you :)
  • Yep. It even has that great popster Derek Bailey on some tracks.
  • I'm sure we will.

    David Sylvian - Blemish
Is that the one you played last time I came? I quite liked that - not really heard anything like it before.
  • Probably. Lots of sometimes non-musical sounds, somehow assembled into a tune.

Some of the things David Sylvian is doing these days are pretty much unique.
  • David S Ware - Onecept
  • That seems about right - big sounds, yet sparse somehow.

    Like me.
  • Cannball Adderley - Live at the It Club
  • The Fully Celebrated - Drunk on the Blood of the Holy Ones
  • I'm sure we will.

    David Sylvian - Blemish
Talking of David Sylvian (indirectly) I read earlier that Mick Karn (bass player with Japan) died today, as did Gerry Rafferty.
  • Oh, that is sad.
  • Grachan Moncur III - Some Other Stuff
  • Tony Malaby - Adobe
  • Ralph Towner - Lost and Found
  • Just ran some Sylvian up on Spoticus.  I quite like the newer stuff even if does still sound like David Bowie :)
  • What have you found?

    Vijay Ayer - Tragicomic
  • David S Ware Quartet - Corridors and Parallels
  • Just ran some Sylvian up on Spoticus.  I quite like the newer stuff even if does still sound like David Bowie :)
The further out - and therefore more interesting, IMO - stuff is on Sylvian's own label, Samhadisound (sp?). He dropped (or was dropped by) Virgin (I think) and started releasing CDs initially for sale from his own Web site, although they're on Amazon and other places now.

    Vijay Ayer - Tragicomic

God Man 2003.  I quite like it.  The music sounds a bit like mid nineties Waits - certainly got that feel to it.

Camphor 2002.  Interesting in a new agey kind of way.  And mostly instrumental from what I've heard so far.
  • I haven't got either of those. I guess they must be next up for listening ;-)
  • Track 10 on Camphor is Upon This Earth.  Very moody piano piece, liking it a lot.
  • Makes you feel camphortable, does it? (I'll get me coat)
  • I've just noticed with Spotty that if you turn the volume down during an advert it pauses and waits till you turn it up.  Cheeky buggers.

Not annoying enough to make me want to pay for it though :)
  • Makes you feel camphortable, does it? (I'll get me coat)

Hat and scarf as well mate!
  • JP - Honestly (Solo live) on the Spot

  • Foo Fighters - Greatest Hits
  • Rachmaninov: Preludes (op32) Ashkenazy. :)
  • Weather Report - Live in Tokyo
  • David Sylvian - Brilliant Trees.
  • David Sylvian - Brilliant Trees.
And very wonderful it is, too :-)

    Not brilliant then?
    :p
  • Could be. I'll have to think about it  :-??
  • Indigo Girls - 1st Album coincidentally called Indigo Girls :)
