Audio Physic Virgo 3's

edited May 2011 in Loudspeakers

Having lived with a pair of Spark 3's for around 6 years or so,a pair of these seemed the logical upgrade.

My listening room is small (approx 13 x 11) and many speakers have come and gone over the years mainly due to bass problems, but the Sparks worked very well with decent well controlled bass (downward firing ports) and a lively engaging sound that always got to the heart of the music with no real vices to speak of.

Spending 1.5k on a pair of speakers sight unseen filled me with fear, but I had a feeling they may just work due to being a sealed box even though I thought the side firing bass drivers may cause problems.

They pretty much have to placed about 15" from the rear wall and a little more from side walls and I havn't even played around with postioning in the month or so I have had them. They also look stunning imo and the finish is excellent.

Compared to the Sparks they sound fuller with slightly deeper bass, but the pitch & timing on these things is amazing........Linn Kans.....na.

There is a slight brightness in the lower treble to my ears (uses the same ring radiator tweeter as the Spark) but there is so much unforced detail and expression through out the midrange I can put up with this.

Best of all they make music fun and enjoyable to listen to,which I suppose at the price you would expect, but alot of even high end gear in my experience doesn't do this.

So there you have it........one happy Virgo 3 owner !

Paul.

Hi Paul - this forum is a little odd when it comes to formatting & images - I think it must have been intended more as a blog hosting site.

If you want to show images from photobucket, you need to copy the 'Direct link' address. Then, in the text box here on AudioChews, use the third icon in from the right top corner. It will bring up a small text box in which to paste the copied address. Before pasting though, delete the 'http://' already in the little box, or you'll end up with two 'http://'s and the image won't work.

It was never designed as a blog, but Vanilla Forums (the software we use for Audio Chews) was designed to make the most relevant features of blogging software available for forums. Therefore, it has a bit of a bloggy feel.

For more info about Vanilla, click on the link at the bottom of the page.
  • Nice looking speakers, BTW, Paul.

    When can I borrow them?
    :-D
  • Thanks Alan.

You can borrow them anytime Mr Ugly :)

    Paul.

  • Thank you ;-)
  • Bring your TDS Monos when you collect.... :)
  • LOL!

Now, what would I drive the Virgos with?
  • I very much approve of the concept behind these speakers - a nice monitor with excellent imaging & tone with a socking great sideways firing bass driver on the floor to give that extra scale. The best of both worlds maybe?

Careful. You'll be after a pair of omnis soon  :-D
  • BTDT!

Though I really want to hear Shahinians!
  • So do I!

I have a feeling they may be a wonderful experience on the end of NVAs.

The bass seems very well intergrated to the mid/top so yes the idea does work.Would love to hear a pair in a much bigger room then mine.
