And I've had 12 off your list - spooky eh?

    Thinking about mine now
  • I had a BCG when I was at school. And a Tetanus booster.  :p

My list is a tad shorter, although spanning 35 years!

JVC MM with Shibata stylus in mid-70s, which I recall as being not bad at all
    Ortofon VMS20E
    A&R P77
    Linn K9
    Stilton Nagaoka MP11
Audio Technica OC5 (still in use)
Ortofon Kontrapunkt B, just serviced and retipped by ESCo
Ortofon 2M Black (still in use)
Audio Technica AT33PTG, just retipped by ESCo with their Paratrace tip, after I broke the original micro-ridge one.  Stunning cartridge, hopefully even better with a gentler stylus profile.
Benz MIcro Glider SL, bought to keep me going while ESCo were working on the KB and AT33PTG
Denon DL103, bought out of curiosity.  Curiosity was duly satisfied and I sold it very quickly.

    Ortofon FF15E
    ADC QLM34
    ADC VLM
    Signet TK5E

    A&R P77
    A&R P78
    Elite MCP555
    Mission 773
    Supex 900
    Audio Technica AT32E
    Goldring G920IGC
    Goldring G900IGC
    Goldring G910IGC
    Ortofon MC10 Super
    Goldring 1040
    Audio Technica AT160MLX
    Linn K9
    Rega Bias
    Linn Asak
    Linn Troika
    Decca Super Gold
    Audio Technica ATF5
    Audio Technica ATOC9
    Rega Elys
    Goldring G1042
    Denon DL110
    Denon DL160
    Audio Technica AT440ML
    Audio Technica AT150MLX
    Ortofon MC15 Super
    Ortofon MC25FL
    Audio Technica ATOC9ML
    Dynavector DV17
    Decca Microscanner
    Denon DL103
    Shure M97Xe
    Lyra Argo
    Audio Technica AT33PTG

I like cartridges and especially AT :)

Star prize goes to the original Decca Super Gold which used the VDH stylus. I rebuilt the body with a metal bracket and flying leads - Troika style.

Lesson learned from that long list is that I must have fine line contact tips as I seem to be allergic to tracing distortion. Love ML, VDH and Gyger tips.

The Goldring G900 range were the first in the UK to use the VDH profile and i found the difference startling. Still have a NOS 900IGC stylus here in recognition of that eureka moment when i first heard the last track on the LP side played cleanly.

Mention of the word conical or spherical brings me out in a rash ;)

Bargain of the lot has to be the Denon DL110. Sold for £50 for 25 years and is extremely capable.

Lyra was incredibly dynamic but oh so bright and lively up top - 7dB HF rise!
Fine if you have speakers with a falling top.

  • I got end of side distortion with most cartridges until I went for the T2 arm.  Never used a parallel before as they're all big ££ but I got a very good deal.

One example is Loud Reed - Transformer.  Walk on the Wild side is the last track on the side on my copy and the bass guitar and that sax solo would never track clean.  Now even the Denon 103 sails through no problems.
  • Ortofon 520mk2
    Sumiko bps Evo 3
    Dynavector Dv20xh
    Decca super gold

Relatively few (I've got a Stanton and a Pickering too) but a rapid evolution. Huge improvements at each stage. I've always found cart's provide a very rewarding upgrade.

    Ben
  • Linn K9
    Stilton mp11
    AT OC7
    AT ART1
    Linn Klyde
    Lyra Dorian.
There must be one or maybe 2 others but memory fails me.
    Matt.

  • Linn k9
    DV17d3
    DV xx2 mk2
  • Linn K9
    Grado Silver
    Ortofon MC25FL
    Ortofon Kontrapunkt B
    Shelter 901
    Goldring 1042
    ZYX R100-02H
    Shelter 901

Never should have sold the first 901 i had, so picked up another after a brief try with the ZYX. Hoping to upgrade to a Audio Note IO Gold in the next year or so.

  • Obviously you like the Shelters but what do you reckon of the ZYX?  I've heard mixed reports.
  • It was slightly more neutral than the 901 - but leaner, less detailed and not as colourful. The 901 has much better bass too. ZYX was still way preferable to the rather over hyped Kontrapunkt B though.

I see a few G800's in this list. Just re-tipped one of these for a customer and was suitably impressed. Prefered it to my Supex!
  • The latest at Chez Gromit - bought a Jico SAS tip for my Shure M75ED. It's been an eye (or rather ear) opener.

Just added a NOS Goldring G900IGC and G910IGC to my collection.

And very nice they are :)

  • Oooh they bring back memories Rob - 'Intimate Groove Contact' or something wasn't it? Always thought the green one looked a bit like a boiled sweet. Also remember they sounded good too. :)
  • How did it taste?

    Hi Richard,

Yes they remind me of Spangles sweets :)
