  • Well done Paul

    Looks good.
  • Thanks Dave.  Took a long time getting there, but had some good help.

    Planet
    Protector.

    A superb
specially developed contact cleaning and lube oil of light
viscosity and low volatility (it doesn't readily evaporate)
designed to remove oxidation and grease and leave a very thin film of
conductive protective oil on contact surfaces, enhancing electrical
contact between surfaces for increased signal integrity at
connector joints.  Only a tiny amount is needed, and one 5ml
bottle will do an entire system!

    Named after
the Reference Series of products, this is a safe, non-toxic compound
which is free from CFC’s and other chemicals which could
be harmful to the environment. Your connectors once treated
with this solution will benefit from the following solution
    characteristics:

    • De-greases
      and cleans plated surfaces

    • Removes
      oxidation, light tarnishing and dirt

    • Leaves
a protective thin highly conductive layer which increases the
      effective contact area

    • Improves
conductivity against future corrosion and tarnishing

    • Very
effective for all plating surfaces including Gold, Silver &
      Rhodium and Copper plated contacts

    • Effectively
      reduces future wear on contact
      surfaces

    • Reduces
      intermittent faults

    • Prevents
      by improving connections

    • Low
evaporative loss (0.4% after 72 hours at 100°C)

    • Highly
      stable synthetic material

    The
components being cleaned should first be examined and any heavy
tarnishing and oxidation removed with a light abrasive and a very
small drop of the solution. For most contacts, all that is needed is
first a wipe down with a lint free clean cloth, followed
    by
application of Planet Protector using a cotton wool bud. Only a
very small drop should be used. Once the bud is lightly dampened, the
component surface should be wiped vigorously and the opposite end of
the bud used to clean any excess off. For treatment
    of mains plugs
and IEC’s please allow sufficient time for evaporation of
    the
cleaning agent before plugging back into the mains (30 minutes
or so). Do not over apply to prevent migration of the conductive oil
    base.

    Safety data:
As with all oils and solvents, contact with skin and eyes and
ingestion should be avoided. It is recommended that hands are washed
with soap and plenty of water after use. Keep stored in a cool dry
place away from naked flames or other
    sources of ignition. Avoid
spillage or prolonged contact with certain plastics.

    priced at £11.95

  • Is this the same stuff Peter Belt brought out in the 1980's???
  • I don't know Colin, but doubt it.  This has been developed more recently I think and is a more advanced synthetic formula than I believe was available some 25-30 years ago.  I have been in discussion with a UK specialist manufacturer regarding the product, and the final details between us are being agreed on Monday.  Hopefully it'll be the start of a long term business arrangement between us as my spec was very tight and they've met it perfectly.  I was pretty baffled by the costs of some popular products sold in 2ml bottles and wanted to be able to offer a very good alternative in larger bottles for less money, which is what I've done. Having tried this formula myself, all I can say is it does what it says on the tin, a great oxide and tarnish remover combined with a very good thin base lubricant/contact improver.  I'm a great believer in maximising contact quality, and also using the best quality RCA's possible as the differences I've found compared with lesser products and attention to detail aren't always that unsubtle!  I'm hoping to get this reviewed in the near future along with one of my leads, so watch this space!
