Goodmans Magisters For Sale

edited January 2013 in Loudspeakers
Not mine, quite a bit tidier on the woodwork side than mine, actually. These are available on pfm.

They really are super speakers, I bought mine back after I sold them a few months ago!

I have copied this advert, if your interested you had best respond on pfm.

Goodmans Magister loudspeakers (with huge 15" woofers!

Regretfully I am offering up for sale my cherished Goodmans Magister
loudspeakers. I have owned and enjoyed these speakers for the past 6
years but an imminent change in circumstances means they must find a new
home.

Specifications:

The Magister was Goodmans largest offering from their late 1960s
/ early 1970s “M” range of loudspeakers. It is a 3-way infinite baffle
design sporting a 1-inch silk dome DT3 tweeter, 4-inch cast mid unit,
and huge 15-inch long-throw bass driver, yielding a very phenomenal
frequency response of 26Hz to 22kHz (+/- 5dB). Rated at 50W (RMS) and a
4 to 8 ohm load. Dimensions: 27 inches (H) x 20 inches (W) x 14 inches
(D). Weight (approx): 35kg each.

Comments:

These are wonderful big speakers that are very exciting to
listen to with a very pleasing and wholesome tonal balance exemplary of
the “Golden Age” of British loudspeaker design. Music is presented with
tremendous dynamic scale and impact, and of course the low end - which
these speakers are most revered for - is effortlessly clean, fast-paced
and rhythmical and extends all the way into the subterranean!

Condition:

While by no means mint, both loudspeakers are in excellent
cosmetic condition for their age, and are of course in full working
order. To the best of my knowledge they are original and unmodified.
During my ownership the speakers have been used in my dedicated
listening room with the grilles in place, and as you can see from the
photos, all 6 drive units are in unblemished condition. Both grilles
are in excellent condition with no pulls, holes or stains, and both
original badges are still present. The teak-veneered cabinets are in
very good condition for their age with just the odd light scuff and
small ding (happy to supply more pictures by email).

Price:

£295.

Additional Info:

These speakers are collection only, or I can deliver within 100
miles of Glasgow for fuel costs. Shipping is unfortunately out of the
question as the volumetric weight exceeds UPS’s limits and I am not
willing to entrust them to another carrier.

Please PM me with any questions .

  • They appear to have an almost royd-like cult following.
I do like their look with the grills off.
What was your net profit/loss on your magisters buy-back Alan...?
  • Precisely £0! I asked for first refusal if Sovereign ever moved them on, and he found some OBs he got excited about. Glad I did, as I missed them.

I still haven't run them in the main system - that is a goal for this year,.
  • I don't know if these have sold yet, but they are really good speakers, not the prettiest speaker, but for a few hundred quid I doubt if you could buy a better sounding speaker.
  • They are pretty nice, which was why I missed them.

James  - are you back from Africa now? We would be really interested in a thread describing your experiences, what you did, hopefully with a few pics. How about it?

For those of you that don't know, our James has been in Africa with a charity for some weeks, helping to build a school. He is the man, and all credit to him I say.  ^:)^
  • No need to bow, just pay homage by forming a queue with gifts of hifi, especially NVA amps.
