Neil Young Pono

edited March 2014 in Digital
A friend (competent woman and feminist) asked me about this today. I seem to remember this being discussed at some point on this 'ere bored, but a quick search didn't turn anything up.
Any information / experience much appreciated.

They were looking for $800k and have raised $3.2m in the first few days! Looks like a very nice device.
  • A Neil Young Porno??
  • That's great fellas. :-)
  • You say 'competent woman', as if most aren't :-O

    You'd better watch out Ben!
  • After believing for a long time that I was just a manifestation (womanifestation?) of Ben's late night weirdness, it turns out that I am genuinely a real person. And one that has been bribed into joining this forum (my price? a large black coffee. I'm nothing if not cheap to keep).
How competent I am, I will leave others to judge. How competent woman kind is, I will defend to the hilt !

But yes, I was asking about the small musical toblerone. Every time I put "rip CD to Pono" into a search engine, I end up with a load of articles on how Pono is a rip-off. I suppose it could be worse, considering the brand name ;-)

    Wohoo! The competent woman arrives.
    :-)

And Helen, it's customary to post about your system and music tastes....!
  • Take a seat Suzy. I'll just look after that Toblerone for you!
  • If I remember, pono is a FLAC player up to 24/192kHz. There is some input somewhere from Meridian, but I think the hardware is designed & made by Ayre.

Look at it this way, if someone mooted a sub £400 portable hi-res music player, with sabre DAC chip made by Ayre, most audiophiles would see the point.

I do, but won't be saving for one.
  •  And Helen....!
I'll have to stop calling you Suzy, then.
