  Baffles me as to why colour reduces the sense of historical distance. Such an unnerving sense of contact with those old images.
  The one of Darwin (a hero of mine) actually and completely unexpectedly brought a tear to my eye.

  It really does bring the past closer.
  
  I was stunned by some, the first Einstein for example, and the young couple (unemployed logger). There's a lot in that photo.
