New UN Ambassador for the empowerment of women and girls

edited October 2016 in Other stuff
I'm a bit stumped by this.
Firstly I am supposing that by "ambassador" they mean "emblem".
Wonder Woman is a decent enough superhero, but I genuinely can't see how at any stage of the discussion process at the UN, making her a "UN Ambassador" would have seemed a good idea. (Unless certain 'chews members now sit on some UN committee.)
The body shape and sexualised appearance are clearly issues, as are her pure-whiteness and American-ness, but even more important for me is the fact that Wonder Woman is a fictional character. She is never required to "empower" herself according to the laws of nature or realistic human interactions, because in a made-up world she is able to employ super powers and impossible gadgetry. What precise inspirations are "woman and girls" supposed to take from that?
Baffling.

So she's simultaneously to be a UN Ambassador for Irony...
