Why are we talking about LDR-based boxes in 'Amplifiers'?

As it says writ large on the front of the Lightspeed, they're attenuators.

That's a bit different from amplifiers.

  • Well, all passive 'pre' s are attenuators with a switch, aren't they?

I refer to a "passive pre" in the sense of it sitting pre the amplifier, in the position of a trad pre-amp. I don't think I have ever called an one a pre-amp, always a passive pre.

Is the Lightspeed the more authoritative version of an EVA then?
