  • Hi S,

This one with gold painted parts was one of 4 the parts were all matched to provide the best I could get at the time.
It should sound amazing, the cap look OK and as if it has never been used, but they do dry up and this one was made in about 1982 so I would replace them if you can, if not Paul Quick is your man he has become a dab hand at these now. I would normally but my health is not up to it right now, cant lift heavy things at all (not even a pint), so today we had a demo of the new A Class at Mike Manning's Audio and poor Geoff struggled from the car park and back with the beast.

PM Quickie or me for more info oh I have lots of review and circuit diagrams if you need them.

    Best Col

PS look out for a Gold Plated one, only 6 in world, one in Milan Italy.
I just love the way Acrylic burns and the fumes are to just die for!
  • Good morning! Thank you very much indeed Colin, nice to hear from you, the creator , that this amp is one of a kind !
And thank you for all the infos and advices , i will certainly ask you further details on it.
Thanks also to Alan for the pics.

    Have a great day!
    s.
  • He is good at that, and breaking vans, he he sorry Alan. ;)

So if you need any thing please ask, Paul Quickie is right about the 10,000uf it will deepen the bass and reduce the slight hum on the MC stage. But please change the diodes before doing that.
So enjoy and tell me what do you think of this old amp.

Best to all and good morning

    Col

  • Oh some more history,

The amp was first designed for Roy Hall at Music Hall USA, but he became ill and so cancelled he order, since then he has got better and I saw him at Munich 2011, nice guy.
My friend Chris Frankland with Malcolm Steward (Flat Earth) said he would love to try one, having already heard the Magnum stuff, so that how the world got the Claymore, PCB was design and laid out by John Dudley of Maplin and a good friend, testing was done at Diesis later to become Ruark with my dear friend Brian (miss him).
So there you are it was all funded by Inca Tech Gold Plated Mains Plugs sold at Harrods plugs weird eh.
I just love the way Acrylic burns and the fumes are to just die for!
  • i have a fetish for the claymore and i am not afraid to admit it !
    =P~
  • Which one ? The Bomb, the sword, the Whiskey or the amp?
    Me to guess which one.

you dont have to ask Col, the bomb kills, the sword is out of date, the whiskey gives me a sore head , the amp makes music worth listening too for hours and hours and hours and just makes me smile,

oh and schwantz, try some of Cols Tellurium q cables with the claymore if you get the chance,
    :D
  • Hello to all, Hi Colin, ive sent u a pm.

  • This thread is making me feel guilty.

I have an Inca tech amp (I think a Claymore). It is connected up and powers a system next to my drum kit in the loft. I haven't had chance/time/energy to play the kit for a while as I've been spending my muso time practising/playing my bass in the lounge, so the old Inca tech has been a bit neglected. If I promise to spend some quality time with it over the next few weeks, I hope Col' won't call social services...

Not for a week or so, just the odd post. He hasn't been to well of late, and work is probably stacking up before the xmas shutdown.

If you PM him he'll get an email alert. Send him our best if you do, Sergio!

  • Recently I left my 25 year old Claymore and CD player switched on for several days and now cannot tell which is not working. Either way the thread here makes me think I ought to find someone to do a service on the Claymore and,if necessary, carry out repairs on her as she has been the best amp I have ever had, but I cannot find anyone who would look at her for me. Other sites tell me I ought to obtain tellerium cable too but I am not sure if my budget would extend to such an amount. I also saw an Incatech amplifier of a lter design on e bay from a dealer in Somerton and wondered if I might be better off just buying that on the basis that Colin Wonfor designed that too but I cannot bring myself to abandon my faithful old lady.
When I saw Mike Manning audio on a thread I thought I would phone him so he said I should ask Colin if I could contact him so here I am.
The CD player is a Sansui CDx701i so if anyone knows of a trusty service engineer for CDs too, in the London/kent/South area please let me know.
For the Claymore I would be prepared to transport her myself if there was a risk of her being damaged in transit.

Hello mate, welcome to Chews. I just PM'ed Col so he will be along when he can.

Docfoster has a slightly ill Claymore too, as does our pet channel islander, so some way of repairing these will have to be found.

    Hope it works out!

  • Hello Hodcarrier,

The poor beast should be OK being left ON for long times, but she is aging a bit, Paul Quick now does the fixes on the Claymore as my hands shake to much now days.
I have supplied Paul (Quickie) with a few fets now it will depend on the issue number, as half way thru the life of the Claymore,s Hitachi changed the fets pin outs and the old "H" pack type are no longer about, but I have made a PCB to adapt other types as a mod so no panic.
So where are you as Paul is in the West Country ?

    Best Col

Oh circuit diagrams are here on the forum.

  • Hi Doc,

From pic are cant see what is gone wrong so I suspect it should be minor contact Paul.

So what was the pinout of the originals as in ISS 6..the green FETS? I think I have worked it out, but want to check. I cant find a data sheet for the originals, using the numbers printed on them.

The new ones you sent , Col, seem to be G, S, D when viewed from the writing side with the legs down, whereas the ones originally fitted appear to be G,D,S, when viewed from the writing side away from the heatsink plate.

I was wondering about mounting them higher up the original heatsink , and extend the legs down with a 'twist' in them.  But what will that cause other issues..capacitance between the legs etc?

    Hey-ho.

Have decided that I will sell my Claymore. It has a problem (buzzing) on one of the channels (don't know why), and realistically I'm not a person who is going to be able to sort it out.

I'll chuck it up on ebay unless someone here wants to make me an offer.

An nice tiny article about Claymores.

Please note the headphone socket added to the front, not by me.
And the person who wrote is thinks the A Class by TQ sound like a Claymore, sorry no way does it.
He also forgot to mention the TOCA and Magnum bits I did let alone my wonderful time at Naim.
So who has got the Gold Claymore's ???
