RIP. Paul Bley

Pianist Paul Bley has died at 83, according to the ECM Records site.

His Not Two, Not One - with Gary Peacock and Paul Motian - is one of my favourite Piano Trio albums, and one I like to blast unsuspecting visitors with. I'll play it on the big rig this evening in Bley's memory.

    And I did. It's a fantastic recording of three masters playing with complete knowledge and confidence.

    Now I have to find a copy of Bley's Japan Suite, with Barry Altschul rather than Motian on drums. I borrowed a copy years ago and still remember parts of it for the fiery playing.
