The set has been designed and made by Colin. I have no scheme or specifications, all I can say that these things play music and nothing but music.
I got it from a relative of mine who had it stashed away in the attic for a long time and he actually was planning to throw the set away since it had a defect. When visiting my place he took it with him and showed me. I was amazed when I saw the set and after looking at the insides of the amps, I immediately knew I was looking at something special.
After having called an audiofriend of mine, I got in touch with mr, W himself and asked if he could take a look at these monsters. After that I packed the set and sent it to the UK, now these beauties are in working order again and playing again, thanks to Colin.
The reason I am offering it for sale is that I am looking for either a Claymore or a valve amp. The Magnum pre and Etude poweramp are not the best match for my Bastanis Calypso broadband loudspeakers (93 dB/W/m).
I'm sure Colin will be along soon to explain ;-)
I'm Dave, BTW
That power amplifier looks like a special edition Magnum 250 to me. I bet that sounds brilliant! I know of someone who used to drive huuuuge Apogee ribbons with those.
Good luck with the sale.
I had the pair back from Jeff a few month ago and did a few fixes on it and replaced the On/Off switch and few minor old parts for new.
Into 8R this amp will give 150+W and 4R 300W with ease, the Pre-Amp is SECA design.
The pair are a derivative of a Magnum Design I did and well worth a punt, only a few were made for special customers of Etude.
The symbol on the front is a Etude design so these are unique.

Before I had this set, I was playing with a Yaqin tube amp, a Sugden A28II and a CR Developments Kalypso valve amp. All of them sounded quite musical but they lack authority and body (if you know what I mean). With Col's set there's more control and it seems like there's a bigger musical, holographic picture.
My loudspeakers are Bastanis Calypso's and they are very sensitive (93 dB/W/m) and don't quite match perfectly. Can you recommend some matching loudspeakers?
I don't really know what speakers are around at the moment, I am using some large Triangle speakers. I am happy to recommend them, due to their scale, speed, and tone. Not completely neutral, but always a lot of fun, especially after upgrading the crossover and wiring with Colin's help. He has heard them, perhaps he will comment for you.
Having powerful amplification is great, as you have found (I use an M-50, and I have used an M100). But I would say that having very efficient loudspeakers with a kind impedance curve is also important, to hear the best in the music. Colin's amps will drive anything, but they will probably sound more musical with such loudspeakers.
Colin's amps make the holographic soundstage partly because of excellent phase behaviour, and some loudspeakers help with this, others will tend to mess the phase up. Colin will have to explain further, or I will make a fool of myself.
My Triangle are about 92W/dB, and are known to be a 'valve friendly' load. The signature range looks very a good buy ex-demo.
I haven't heard Etude, or Artspeak (but I would like to).
Thanks Col. I knew you'd blow away my cobwebs of ignorance!
More likely cobwebs ;-)
I have been away for some time, since I had to spend time for my neck surgery and recovery.
Regards,
Jeff
I've been away because of neck surgery and recovery.
Please feel free to drop me a line if you need additional information.

Jeff
Sounds like excellent advice.
It sure is but I still got lots of things to take care of. :-)
(I have too many amps already!)
It is such a pity that these amps have to stay in the attic. They deserve to play, because they can play! :-)
Are you open to offers? In the region of...?
Thanks and yes, I need the fund otherwise I cannot start the learning coarse.
Guess, I have to remain patient.
I am also willing to trade with another amplifier like e.g. the Claymore.
Reactions and offers are welcome.
You know you want to.
:-)
Are you advertising these anywhere else?
They’re UK based ones with wide readership. Colin will be (in)famous to many readers of those.
Maybe PM him? I’m sure he’d be keen to hear from you.
if he’s not found a buyer in past 10 days hopefully you can make each other happy.
