In my experience your power amps prefer an active pre amp. Is that still the case?

It really doesn't have to be, I believe it can be used passive or to control and active stage.

Can be used on all amps and light dimmer anything that needs a pot

This looks interesting. As a user of an LDR volume control it would make for an interesting comparison.
