  • Good one!

Big question. First thought: Birdland by Weather Report.

But there will be others!  :)
  • As Dave said there will be others but the first that pops into my head is Deep Purple's Lazy.
Erm.....maybe lesser known here Conception's Solar Serpent, a born concert opener...

  • Er, not sure I know either of those, Chris. I'm sure I'll know the Deep Purple when I hear it, though.
  • How about Rikie Lea Jones Chuck Es inn love or Jimi Hendrix Hey Joe?
  • Dixie Chicken anyone.
  • Dixie Chicken anyone.
    That's pretty good.

I'm struggling to recall the intro to either. Does that give them the thumbs-down?

Maybe I'll need to give them both a play.
  • Possibly, both are short and sweet, so how about a bit of school Supertramp hated by many!
  • I'll give them a miss!

Rickie Lee Jones came to mind. I'm just about to go looking for Hendrix. I think I may even have it in my collection.
  • A snadge overplayed and more famous for it's outro but.....
    Eagles Hotel California
  • Peter Gabriel 's Red Rain
  • Led Zep's Dazed & Confused

I keep running the chorus or the hook for these songs (not just yours, Chris), rather than the intro.

I'll be shuffling the Eagles off into a quiet corner, but Peter Gabriel and Zep, I'll be waiting for the intro to come to me like Chuck E's in Love did, eventually.
  • Did you like it, Chuck E that is?
  • Oh, yes. I've liked it since it came out. Just couldn't bring the intro to me bonce at the time!
  • Peter Gabriels  Don't Give Up and Sledge Hammer.
  • She Has played with some amazing people, Chuck Rainey, David Sandbourn, Donald Fagen, Steve Gadd to name but a few and of course her collaboration with Tom Waits, what more could you ask for?

I saw her live, once. She was great!
  • Wish I had.
  • When I lived in London, I went to so many gigs. These days, very few  :'(
  • When I was yoong, I lived close to The Big Smoke and also went to more concerts than I can remember. A change of lifestyle (marriage) and moving to the West Country kinda killed that off.

Rock music is a great source of both subtle and bombastic intros. Here's another...

Rainbow's Gates Of Babylon. Hmmm, may as well add Stargazer while we're here...
  • More, I don't know!
  • I'm back!

How could I not mention the glam rock wonder of Ballroom Blitz?!

    In a very camp voice...

    "Are you ready Steve? Uh-huh
    Andy? Yeah
    Mick? Okay
    Alright fellas, let's gooooooooooo!"

Faith No More's The Real Thing

I haven't even started on Prog Rock ..... yet >:)
  • Then get going, how a bit of Carry on my Wayward Son?

OMG! I'd forgotten that. I really had.

Now, I'm going back to forgetting it  :)
  • I must come back to this thread when I have some time to track this stuff down.

    I haven't a clue about a lot of it.
  • Miles Davis - So What?
  • Anyone for a bit of paranoid Black Sabbath?
  • Always!

While we're there and talking intros, let's throw in some Spiral Architect.
  • ?  will look it up on YouTube.  :*
  • Possible a bit of controversy here but how a bit of Hammer Down Ted Nugent?
  • Then, Iron Maiden's Phantom of the Opera.

Dave, it's lovely little jazzy number .... honest >:)
  • NOT only but also...
    Boston's Foreplay/Long Time.

    Wolfmother's  Joker & the Thief.

Maybe calming down to something simple but very effective with Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here.

Oops! Gave the wrong song there, I meant Under a Mourning Sky.

  • OMG! @cj66

For once, I don't know what to say!

  • And while on funk-period Herbie... Hang Up Your Hang Ups

  • Rainbow's Eyes Of The World

    Screaming Trees' Gospel Plough

    Tesla's Freedom Slaves

DeWolff's Don't You Go Up The Sky

Faith No More's The Real Thing

    Karnivool's Fear Of The Sky

That lot will give your audio system a reasonable work out!

  • 1/6 +1 the rest I don't know. ;)
  • Nope. I don't know any of them  :open_mouth:
  • Mars, Gustave Holst? I'm sure you have all heard it somewhere in passing, if you want a system work out give it a go1
  • OK. I'll raise you Beethoven's fifth  o:)
  • OK I give up :(
  • So, how about a bit of John Mellencamp Jack and Diane?
  • Was that John Cougar Mellancamp, John Cougar or Johnny Cougar?
