harder now to listen to vinyl,due to "hand"s. listening a lot now on ipad and laptop. As a novice I have a few amps/ speakers available. what is the cheapest way I can get something better sounding? be aware Im on a pension and have limited funds. Do I need a dac? whatever that is?

Your source is YouTube, primarily, or do you have CDs hanging around as well?

Primarily YouTube, some Cd as well , played occasionally via a dvd player. I would just like to get the music into the room  rather than just up close, neither my laptop or iPad do this very well and I understand why. How can I hook them up to something musical?

So the CDs are already taken care of, with the DVD player connected to your amp and speakers? Your CD music is in the room.

Yes CD connected. Ipad I think just needs an appropriate lead? mind you if i could connect my laptop to my amp in someway the Ipad would become semi redundant? is that so?

Is it an Apple iPad? If so, I'm not sure about the lead, but I can look into it.

I'm presuming the iPad is easier for you to use than the laptop.

Yes its Apple, in all fairness its the constant shaking of hands that stop the vinyl, both the ipad/laptop cause less damage. Have used the ipad in the past with chromecast audio but no longer seem able to download the control thingy?

I realize there are many variables and I appreciate your time. So to keep it simple (about time) I would like to connect my laptop to an amp and speakers in our living room we have had nothing there for several years and my wife has suddenly decided she would like to hear some music.  I would like to avoid long cables if possible, so that I can peruse youtube for music. Does that make it easier?

If you can afford it, one of these should work with your iPad without any trailing cables. It has AirPlay (Apple's version of Chromecast). You'd just need a cable from its Aux out to your amp.

Amazon's description is partly in German, for some reason. Or, at least, it is for me.

Decided to just try live with what  I have. As for quality of that which I hear ,I have little comparison.  I think I might just keep it that way. Sorry to have wasted all your time.
