-Funny you mentioned Ruark, the importer at that tim send me to England trying to find a good brand. I came home with two alternatives, Royd or Ruark. Since that distributor had worked with Royd earlier we decided to go for Royd. We that distributor later sold his company to the french Micromega, he offered me the agency for Royd in Sweden, the rest is history...
Good to read dynaudio mentioned. Is there an audiophile snobbery about dynaudio? I've always found them to be superb. Cheap? No. But good value. Not familiar with their recent models mind bois. Just sayin' like.
Well here is a little about myself, I am a Music Lover first and foremost. I am a retired Audio Design engineer and have worked at many loudspeaker manufacturers over the years. My system has been built for my taste in music, and will not be as good as some of the systems I have seen on the fora, I use.................. Garrard 401/Hadcock uni/ SC4E/ Cartridgeman Classic. Along with a Graham Slee tweeked Jazz Club phono stage, Denon line pre, Crown power amps, Cd player............................well it plays silver discs.......IAS horn, wires.........well they are only wires after all. S
Dave tis good to speak with you, I have just seen the movie, loads of good jokes on there, laughed my a**e off at some of them, I am really a soul boy at heart but I will listen to anything from Bartock to Led Zep.
It's @Docfoster's (Ben's) doing, and there may well be some overlap in your musical tastes. Indeed, I guess I have some funk mixed in with the ugly music.
Great to see you here! I hope you make yourself at home.
For the rest of you guys, Stewart is one of the most interesting posters on the Wam, he gets called on a lot for anything to do with IAS speakers as he was involved in designing them. He runs a pretty heavy duty DJ rig, and legend has it owned just about the very best pair of ATC '35s ever.
Dave I am the Engineer , and am involved with Soulful Dance, well really am one of the founder members......and shout at the DJs from time to time to turn their levels down on the desk. Thanks Al....................shuffling my feet in embarrassment, and staring at the ground. But my old ATC SCM35 were rather special, sad to say they have a new owner, I do hope he is treating them well. S

Hi Nick
Welcome to Chews. Love your first post. You sound just crazy enough to fit in here :-)
Hi ugly Really hankered after a TDS, at least i think thats what it was called, and the matching cd player.....Thing is i hadnt even heard them when i started drooling..... Anyhoo purchased an ap50 after auditioning loads of stuff (The trading station, peterborough). Just loved the valve amp/new york skyline/bauhaus styling
I am Uzzy - I love music, I have played in bands over the years and in my early days roadied sometimes and sold music gear on a weekend.
In the 70s I worked part time at Guldford HiFi (owned by the lovely Bob Eubank and later taken over by Unilet and sold on again since i think) In that time my love for good sound grew. I also got to realise the bull given out in hifi magazines on reviews.
My system has changed little over many years - I started with a Leak Stereo 30 and a thorens with some speakers I chose at the time buggered if I can remember what they were but I didn't have a lot of money and they sounded best in my price range.
Since that time the system evolved to what I have now (I had a Pioneer 802 CD which my daughter has now which was replaced by a Merdian 506 20 bit that has since died and I am told laser transports are no longer available)
Turntable Systemdek IV (in the loft I have the III and I also have the original Biscuit Tin too
Arms .. in use Mission 774 (in reserve Audio technica AT1100, AT1010, Rega RB250 with Michelle technoweight).
Cartridge ... in use Decca Silver (expert rebuild with fine line) - in reserve: Decca FFSS CR4E & Gold. Will get one of these rebuilt when the Silver is nearing end of stylus life. Expert say the armature degrades over time so not to rebuild until I intend to use. It seems they are made of thin metal which can get oxidisation with age.
Preamp.. Audio Research SP9 (in reserver, Hafler DH101, Townsend Elite).
Power Amp.. Hafler DH200 (in reserve another Hafler DH200 and an XL280 currently in being repaired as one channel failed and fault is proving hard to find as it isn't the output stage or anything obvious so I am told).
CD player .. Marantz 6004
DAC - Dacmagic 2 (I run both the Marantz above and the HB Burnit through this sometimes and it is as good if not better than the old Meridian 506 20bit)
CD Burner .. HB Burnit pro (used to produce CD copies of my vinyl for when i cannot be arsed to put the vinyl on and to make copies for the car). It should be noted, CD copies made on this from Vinyl sound superior to the record company CD issues of original LPs.
Speakers - Art Impressions ... they never cease to put a big smile on my face. (previous speakers included, B&W DM2A, Gale 401, Rogers Pro 9TL of which the Pro 9TL were the most satisfying).
Interconnects - all self made
Loudspeaker wire (500 odd strand OHC copper)
Bi wire - bollox to that
Conservatory system -
Systym 901 speakers (LS35A type) glorious little bookshelf from the company that became Art.
Pioneer 401
Hitachi CD player (bought from car boot for £10 and sounds different to the Meridian, Marantz, Pioneer 802, HB Burnit Pro - but as with all CD players it is hard to say it sounds wrong or right and for the conservatory it is fine).
Well you can all roll your eyes and think the man is mad lol but hey ho - i am a happy feller. There is nothing in my system that makes me think oooer i need to change that or I don't like that.
We all have our own ideas of what is right and wrong and vive le difference. Trust your own ears - if you like the sound of it that is all that counts.
Good morning, my name's Neil & I regularly post on The Art of Sound, but on doing some research on Royd speakers was drawn to this place. Notice a few faces on here too, so hello everyone.
My taste in music often changes, but at the moment am listening to a lot of old school hip hop (Beastie Boys, A Tribe Called Quest, Ice T etc.), Drum & Bassy stuff e.g. High Contrast & Logistics (pretty much anything on Hospital Records) as well as classic acts such as The Cure, Depeche Mode & Joni Mitchell.
With regard to HiFi, it's as below:
Mana Acoustics Rack
Pioneer DV-717 CD transport
Audial Model S DAC
LFD DLS preamp
LFD PA0 SE & PA2M SE power amps (using the PA0 SE at present)
Royd Sorcerer speakers (later 'SE spec' versions with Revelation drivers)
Strung together with LFD Grainless interconnects and LFD Hybrid Ribbon Speaker cable
I also have a Reson Reca & Trichord Dino away on loan, with a Helius Scorpio 4 tonearm sat here waiting for a new turntable. Also have an NVA AP10H headphone amp & Grado RS-1 headphones, which aren't in use at present. It took me a long time to get myself back into a position where I wasn't analysing the HiFi, and just getting drawn into the music, so would like to avoid box swapping for as long as possible!
Thank you. I found the speakers on PFM and HiFi for Sale, so snapped them up. Always wanted a pair when I was younger & they were supposed to go into a second system before they blew me away.
I use them with Something Solid SL24 stands, recommended by Richard (Gromit), who preferred them to Royd's own stands. These offered a significant upgrade, tidying things up at all frequencies & making the highs more liquid & less "brash". One of the most musically communicative and fun speakers I've used, not without their vices (don't go loud & a bit ragged), but too much foot tapping to care.
I've never tried my RR3s on anything but the Royd stands that came with them. Maybe I should.
The 'Royds don't go loud' thing is interesting. I used to have a pair of Minstrels which got pushed right against the end stops when playing loud. Not good.
It's a very different story with the RR3s - with the right amp (Colin's TQ Iridium 20 Class A ;-) ) they go ridiculously loud. Even with the 12 watt SECA Green Goddess, the sound level can be 'pressure on the eardrums' loud routinely, without any distress.
Maybe with the Revelation drivers, your Sorcerers could be persuaded to do the same kind of thing. Just wondering...
It does sound like you have the same kind of music taste as Ben. He'll be along soon, no doubt ;-)

Shit fellas, this Lasse looks like some sort of professional...
Quick, tidy up the place a bit, breath in, best pants on, etc.,...!
(As I suggest above) Your website is mightily impressive.
But not intimidated. Those modern viking types on the other hand...
(The great half, obviously)
Not familiar with their recent models mind bois. Just sayin' like.

About time we had some quality around here! 8-}

Welcome to 'chews!
I know nothing of car transmission, though do recognise and resect much of your kit. Which NVAs are you running?

Go on, make him an offer.
Excellent post there, I agree with what you say.Vive la difference indeed! I bet you are a happy feller indeed...
I would dearly love to hear some high end ART speakers one day, I understand they really do live up to expectations.
Nice speakers! How do you find them?
I suspect you & Ben ( @docfoster ) share something in common when it comes to your choons (its just the way he rolls....)
Sounds like you're in a good place WRT music vs HiFi too - here's to the happy medium!
