Oldest music shop in the world
I'm in Cardiff today. I grew up here, and 'Spillers Records' was one of the shops I used for getting hold of the LPs I needed and couldn't get in HMV or Our Price (remember them?)
I found the shop today, in one of the city's pretty arcades. It didn't used to be there, apparently a steep rise in rates on the main road forced it off the high street.
Today, having rediscovered 'Spillers' I couldn't resist buying some vinyl for old times' sake. I went for 'dubbing with horns'. Looks interesting...
Anyway I noticed that the shop is marketing itself as 'the oldest record shop in the world', and claiming to have been established in 1894. I was wondering how accurate a claim this might be...
Any advance on 1894 anyone?
Dave, I thought you might know; were you buying music before that date?
