The second half had some really good bits. More than the first.
The problem, I think, is that Neset's turbo sax techniques don't fit easily into a conventional sax/keyboards/bass/drums jazz format. Nearly all the high spots were Neset solo (sometimes with electronics) and in duet with the drummer, where he seemed to have the freedom to create.
I'd like to hear him in a sax/bass/drums trio with a bass player who is unafraid to kick ass - a William Parker or Ingebrigt Haker-Flaten type player - or even in a more unconventional sax/trumpet/drums or sax/guitar/drums line-up. Something that has more inherent freedoms about it.
I'd certainly go to see him again, but hopefully in a different setting.
