Changing a mains lead?

edited January 2011 in Analogue
I need to change the mains lead on my PL71 - the one that's come with it is only about 6" long so it's a job to be done asap really. Quick question, does it matter, on the new lead, which way round the live and neutral wires go onto the board? The current (sorry) cable is not colour-coded (although would be traceable back to the mains plug) but am I right in thinking it doesn't really matter which way round the wires are?

Ta for any info.

  • As long as it's AC mains it doesn't matter.  Both cables swap the positive and neutral 50 times a second (Hz).

Some people claim to able to hear it - but many more don't.
  • Cool - thanks Jim. :)

I'll get the soldering iron out...I may not see you on friday due to me being in intensive care. :D
  • It's low current mate.  You may get bitten but only a bit :)
  • We're all sorted - and it stilll works! And more importantly, I didn't need an ambulance. :)
