Epic Novachord Restoration - The First Synthesizer? (1938)
Col posted this gem, and it deserves it's own thread. Great find, Col!

You simply have to look through the pictures in Col's link, the work is incredible. There are some links to samples of it being played too, it sounds truly other-wordly.

It makes a brilliant sound also - so hard to believe it is from so long ago. Truly genius!
Will listen to the recordings tomorrow. :-)
This is a genuine compliment...The thing sounds rather like some of the "ambient" stuff that I believed was so 'cutting edge' back in the early 90s, and used to get stoned to. Indeed, I am sure that I have some Aphex Twin and Speedy J tracks that sound almost identical...!
To what effect were these instruments used in the 30s and 40s...? :-?It's hard to imagine how one could play anything on such an ethereal sounding device that wasn't completely tripped-out.
