Noxagt - Turning it Down since 2001

Norwegian noise/hardcore/metal played by a viola, bass and drums band. How much do I love Tidal?

(Actually the version I'm listening to is slightly different to this (extended and dubdubdubdubified one.))
  • No great fan of Rasco, but Charlie 2na (form 1:30 here) is a great hip-hop baritone. Also the repetitive sample make me enjoy this one more than I should...
    B-)

  • IE - Eivind Aarset
  • Nils-Petter Molvaer - Streamer (Live)
  • Having a first listen to "Demon Fuzz, Afreaka!" by a colleague's recommendation. Suitable for this time of night!
  • The Lounge Lizards - Queen of All Ears

While the Jazz Police can be really tiresome about the Lizards, this album is great. My vote for John Lurie's masterpiece.
  • Half Moon Run - Dark Eyes (a little reminiscent of Turin Breaks with added vava-voom)
  • Mbongwana Star - From Kinshasa

    2015's African album, I think.
  • The Vandermark 5 - Acoustic Machine

"I've got an Acoustic Machine!" :-)
  • Antibalas - Antibalas

@docfoster. Have you heard this lot? NY-based, heavily afrobeat flavoured. Really good band.
  • Antibalas - Security
  • Joe Bonamassa - Live from nowhere in particular .
  • John Zorn/Bar Kokhba - Lucifer: Book of Angels Volume 10

I love this band! One of Zorn's best ensembles.
  • John Zorn/Mycale - Book of Angels Volume 13

A capella quartet singing Zorn's music, with lyrics in a number of languages. Quite beautiful.
  • Mari Boine - Goaskinviellja (Ornebror)

Vocally and musically very beautiful. Who knows about the lyrics!

  • Lisa handigan - passenger
  • The Pioneers - Long Shot
  • Mad Professor - Dub me Crazy
  • It's very much a Niggamortis morning  8-X
I don't know what Aristotle would be making of Gravediggaz, but for me, I reckon this is pretty much the epitome of catharsis.

    May be something like this...

But he always looks pretty enigmatic and (usurprisingly) philosophical.

    Having a bad, bad day?
  • "philosopher AND polymath" ; wouldnt that be a great thing to be able to put in your passport !

    "Having a bad, bad day?"
a bit of emotional wringing out and purification going down very well, fortunately. Loving a bit of being vicariously uninhibited. Getting me in the xmassy mood.
    ;)

    Craig Taborn Trio - Chants

This would be a candidate for '2015 on repeat', but I've had it since at least 2014. Stands head and shoulders above anything else in the piano trio format that's been made for years.
  • EST - Leucocyte

Very different from Chants, but probably my previous vote for high point of jazz piano. If I'm allowed to call it jazz, of course ;-)
  • The Neville Brothers - Yellow Moon

Jupiter & Okwess International - Hotel Univers

  • Lumen Drones - Lumen Drones
  • Bad Lip Reading "Yoda Rockin' and Rollin'"

  • Invisible Astro Healing Rhythm Quartet - 2

  • Darkside - Psychic

  • Joëlle Léandre, Delbecq, Carnage The Executioner - Tout Va Monter
  • Eivind Aarset - I.E.

    A really great album straddling jazz/(prog) rock/electronica

Give it a go if you have Tidal

    Now I like that one.
Found a live version on Y.T. Sort of a Joe Satriani meets Ozric Tenticles with longer quiet passages. :)>-

(these smilies don't come out like shown...)
  • It's all sorts of stuff. During the first track, I kept thinking Fripp.

You're gonna have to watch out, Chris, you'll get sucked into this Norwegian/Scandinavian stuff ;-)

    Old school ambient... clicky

    Too late!

    Several old favourites already have regular play status;

    Darkwater
    DeWolff
    Anglagard

Such an active music scene with plenty to offer.

Absolutely! I have so much stuff from Norway/Scandinavia

    John Scofield - Past Present

I loved Time on My Hands, a Sco Blue Note album from 20-odd years ago. He's more or less put the band back together again and this one just carries on where the old stuff left off. Wonderful music, if a little lacking in progress over the decades. The playing more than makes up for it, though.

    Nice :D
  • The Associates - The Affectionate Punch

Having just finished the latest Ian Rankin Rebus novel, I had to play the album.
  • ASWAD - Showcase.

  • Blagged from another forum, Steven Wilson "The Raven That Refused To Sing" album, quite brilliant and on the shopping list.

Sorry. I didn't quite catch that lyric Ben :-)
  • Dave Douglas - High Risk

High Risk, the album and band, apparently. It's a bit more ambient than you'd think - give it a go.

It has its moments, but it's a bit proggy for me.

I may give it another play, though.

IMHO it's his best solo effort and preferable to the Porcupine Tree outings.....there's even the tiniest jazz tinge in places ;)
