  • Andrew Hill - Time Lines

His last and another good 'un
  • Art Pepper - The Complete Village Vanguard Sessions, Disc 6

    Sublime!
  • It is indeed
    B-)
  • Intrigued by Mr Pepper chaps - I only have a 'Proper' 2cd release with 'Rhythm' & 'Mucho Calor'. Any other must have Pepper's ??
    Thanks
    Mervyn
  • Uh, everything :)

I'll have a look through and sort a list of my favourites and Dave will be along in a minute as well

Maybe this deserves a thread of its own under jazz?
  • Along the lines of Jerry's Classical music Blog?  A place for recommendations perhaps?  Do we split by artist you reckon?
  • Now

    Art Pepper - The Trip
  • A kind of reference for essential recordings by particular artists. So a thread for Art Pepper, one for Bill Evans etc. And, under Rock, Captain Beefheart and Jimi Hendrix. And so on.
  • Agreed here.
  • Thinking some more it may be better to have Jazz Recommendations, Rock Recommendations, Classical, Folk, World and so on.  A heading for every artist will make a very long list.
  • Trout Mask Replica :)

But it'd be easier to find what you're looking for, and won't have muddled threads full of many artistes.

I think we should adopt this format:

    Recommendations: Art Pepper (in jazz)
Recommendations: Frank Ifield (in old shit you wished I'd never mentioned)
    and so on

  • Trout Mask Replica :)
    OK. Trout Mask Replica

and I raise you a Metal Machine Music
    >:-)
  • And Spotti doesn't have Trout Mask Replica and I only had it on tape :-(
  • Good hand.  I see your Metal Machine Music and raise you a Diamond Dogs with VU and Nico as a pair.

In the year of the scavenger, the season of the bitch!

So under Music we have a Recommendations sub heading and then Jazz. Rock etc in there?
  • Rory Block - The Lady and Mr Johnson
  • We could do it that way, but I was just thinking about saying:

Recommendations: Art Pepper (or Rec: Art Pepper) under Jazz. Hopefully that will help start filling up the music categories.
  • I'll have you know I sat through the whole of Metal Machine Music this afternoon. That's a first for me!

I'm with you.  Sounds good to me.

OK, you win!  I've never played it through, not sure I have a copy these days.  Been years since I've heard any of it.

You gonna kick off with some Art Pepper?
  • Will do.
  • Yello - Baby
  • Art Pepper - The Complete Village Vanguard Sessions, Disc 3
  • Hugh Masakela - Hope
  • Roof - The Untraceable Cigar  :)
  • Ah, you found a copy.  Do you like it?  It gets the occasional airing here.
  • Abercrombie, Holland & Dejohnette - Gateway

Yes. A copy I already had, would you believe?

It's OK. I need to give it more than a cursory listen.

An occasional hearing sounds about right.
  • Abercrombie, Holland & Dejohnette - Gateway
Ah, Backwoods Song, if I remember correctly.

I'm a bit of a closet Abercrombie nut. I particularly like his quartet with Mark Feldman on violin.
  • I'm liking the distorted guitar sound
  • Brad Mehldau - Deregulating Jazz
  • John Martyn - One World
  • Like it or not...
  • John Butler Trio – Attitude - Live

I know nothing about him/them. Just noticed them on Spotify.

Is Black Dog another entry for the cover versions thread? :-D
  • Could well be, didn't think of that!

Mind, the entire album is covers.

They do make me laugh :)

I was wondering if all the tracks were covers. I don't recognise all the titles.
  • Ha! I thought Holiday was going to be the Madonna song.
  • Nope, Green Day cover.

My mistake, just checked and about half are covers.  The rest are by the band.

Still a lot of covers though.

My two favourite covers are Highway to Hell and Ace of Spades

They have a video out called No Sleep 'till Liverpool :-)

They have a tribute album to Kiss - called Kiss My Grass
    :-))
