Gonna have to give this some thought...
  • The Beatles 'Let it be' Naked.
Really good. Better than Mr. Spector's original. Nicely open and spontaneous sound.
And Dave, you're just wrong about Ringo. You've mistaken 'unconventional' and 'interesting' for 'crap'. He's dead good - vital to what makes the Beatles sound pleasing. And btw that's not IMHO, it's in fact.
    ;-p

    So:

Steely Dan - The Royal Scam

A good place to start, 'cos IMO, it's the pivotal album between the pop/rock of the early albums and the high-gloss studio magic of the later ones.

Chicago Underground Duo - Age of Energy

From somewhere out on the post-jazz, post-rock boundaries, this is a great mixture of electronics, cornet and kit drums.

    Here's one track:

  • Gilgamesh - Another Fine Tune You've Got Me Into
  • Rabih Abou-Khalil - Morton's Foot
  • Lyle Lovett - Pontiac

    Dr John - Duke Elegant

Because young Mr Brown was here
  • Freddie Hubbard - Straight Life
  • Jim Hobbs Trio - Babadito

It's the Fully Celebrated (Orchestra) under another name, and sounding very Ornettish.
  • I'll have a shufty for that one, sounds interesting.
  • I think you'll probably enjoy it.
