Jackson died recently. Sad news to hear such a force of nature is no longer with us.
I think I only saw him live once, with Last Exit (Bill Laswell, Peter Brotzmann and Sonny Sharrock) in London in the late 80s. That was a gig of elemental noise, if ever there was one.
The Redbook is pretty good, too. Played a bit of it earlier.
I think, musically, it's the best of his albums.
I've been living under a rock with regard to Gregory Porter. Heard his first cd at a bake-off (no cakes involved, just mince pies B-)) yesterday and really enjoyed it.
Not ugly music, at all. But one of those recordings that transcends everything. I love Ellington in small-group and smaller settings, where I can really hear what he's up to.
Very far away from Ellington & Brown, this one is as much about the studio and production as the music and musicians, but I keep coming back to it and getting enmeshed in its washes of sound.
Just bought from Mike Manning Hi-fi some "Q Acoustic 2020i" speaker for my son Scott used here with a TQ Listen and Atom for sub £200 speaker I will say they are very good.
So now listing to a strange selection of music and very impressed with the build and sound from these tiny things.
Kate Bush, Desmond Dekker, Dire Straits and Philip Glass so far all sound not bad.
It will be Scott's first system I hope he likes it.
His mum has a blue 1982 Claymore with Etude MP5's.
It did bring back memories of a guy call Bo-Jangle who played in the local pub and after a few pints of Watney Red Barrel he did sound OK. But now I can't drink it will have to grow on me whilst I am trapped in the car and floods.
Hmm. Sounds as if Spotti have got their knickers in a twist. This isn't a Raoul Bjorkenheim album - no guitar for a start! Just tenor sax and drums. A closer look at the album cover image shows the album to be (probably) Paal Nilsson-Love and Hakon Kornstad - Schlinger.

Complete perfection! (Apart from the piano being too loud) .
