I should have seen them in New Orleans, but just before the gig started, one of them fell ill so the whole thing was cancelled. I was extremely drunk, so it may have been for the best. I bought their CD in New Orleans market the next day. It's quite good. Probably not challenging enough for you Dave. It has a Cuban feel. A bit like a more sultry and raw version of Buena VIsta.

My enjoyment of music is not just the challenge, you know, matey!
Sounds as if it might be worth a listen. I'll see if it's on Spotti.
Various Artists "Sweet and Salty Popcorn" on Croydon Municipal. For thise of you who don't know what popcorn is I try to explain it here I liken the music to "listening to a Sunday afternoon black and white film( with actors you’ve vaguely heard of ) at your grandmothers in the late 70s – oddly alien and yet strangely familiar."
I hadn't heard of this guy until the CD Baby e-mail arrived. The tasters on the site were enough to make me look on Spotify.
Still listening for the first time, but I think it's one to buy. The guy has a great trumpet tone, and the band sounds good, too. I can imagine the band turning up on ECM one day. What a debut!
This one is getting some heavy rotation (as I understand some say) here in Ugly Towers. Taborn is a really interesting pianist, really his own man, and this trio with Thomas Morgan on bass and Gerald Cleaver playing a blinder on drums just has to be heard - go on, if you like piano trios, try something a little different.

Not spotty, I know...

Still more '70's in vibe than anything else:
Phat bass!
