Sorry, am going to go on about this a bit. Am just loving revisiting this album. Its utter commitment to post-punk starkness is fantastic. Loads of heavy bass and unremitting cymbals with little inbetween to join up the dots makes it feel sparse and crisp. Everything feels so staccato, and once the lyrics get added to the equation it becomes positively telegraphic.
I would say it reminds me of my youth, but it doesnt, i was more of a "kiss me kiss me kiss me" gal back then. Its taken age to really appreciate the crafted horror, humour and discomfort of their earlier stuff.
And now I'll return you to your scheduled programme......
Great comments on the Cure, Ms 6Toes. I admit the cure passed me by (I was perhaps a little young) but I am becoming increasingly aware of an almost genius level "crafted horror and discomfort" and wry humour... I love them every time I hear them (quite a bit on RP). I shall have to investigate.

The Cure... Yes i agree Alan. I know them hardly at all, but whenever i hear them, i do like...

My Robert Smith story.
In about 1980, The Cure played the student union at Birmingham University, where I found myself sharing a table with him and some others.
He was, frankly, screwed up, and spent some time proudly displaying his self-inflicted cigarette burn scars on his forearms.
Alan, you're not making any friends here you know declaring your youth!!!
I have to say that The Cure were always the most disappointing band to hear live. I think, Dave, for the reason you give above! I am grateful to them for introducing me to an appreciation of brass though.
Enjoying a bit of R L Burnside there :-) Not what I was expecting. Foot tapping and hip-swinging going on here
Might be another one for the buy list to go with my Kornstad/Haker Flaten/Christensen album.
Edit: It was great all the way through. Seems that Kornstad has made several of these 'live' solo albums with electronics and stuff.
It's a bit like John Surman's solo albums on ECM with various saxophones and electronics. I remember seeing him doing the material live at a Bracknell Jazz Festival many years back.
This snuck out in 2008 but I just discovered it on Spotify. Anthony Jackson and Dennis Chambers are a fantastic rhythm section and Steve Khan is always brilliant. I love his sound.

At least 6 times better than i remember it from 18 years ago.
