In which Miles leaves jazz conventions behind almost totally. I love his electric period music; I've been unravelling it since the late 70s when I was just confused by so much of it. And this box set is some of the deepest, most rewarding (if most ugly) music the great man ever created.
Oh, and Michael Henderson's electric bass. Just phenomenal. When all seems to be going into meltdown, he's there making it funky.
I must get myself a pair of decent headphones sometime, as listening near-field in the office is somehow more persuasive than on the big rig downstairs.
If you've been hankering after the old noisy/New York-flavoured Frisell, look no further. This CD of solo improvisations produced by John Zorn is what you (and I) have been waiting for. It snuck out in 2013 on Tzadik and I missed it.
It's as fantastically out as anything he did in the trio with Paul Motian and Joe Lovano, and as abrasive (at times) as when he was a regular in Zorn's projects.
Amazing guitar playing from Ribot, with Bassist Henry Grimes and drummer Chad Taylor.
Mixing free playing somewhat filling the gap left by Sonny Sharrock, Rockabilly, distorted rock, tastes of Ribot's Prosthetic Cubans band, Albert Ayler and John Coltrane tunes, and a few standards, this is one of the best guitar albums I've heard in a long time.
Keith Jarrett, Charlie Haden and Paul Motian - Hamburg '72
From the reviews I was expecting this to be more out than it is. So far I haven't been able to play it on the big rig downstairs, where it may sound different.
Hmm. The jury's out. I'm trying not to be diasappointed.

Nice bass workout for my system (in decent res, anyways...)...
Interesting.
Some good, some bad, some ugly...
Loving this... Bit of an ear worm for me at the mo...
Really connecting with it. To me, right now, the backing vocals sound just magical. :-)
