  • Oli Brown - Here I Am (new album just released).
Ooh - another one? Either he is prolific, or I discovered him late...this must be the third album in a year or so! Is it any good?

I must admit I preferred his second to his debut (which wasn't by any means shabby).
  • Eddie Durham - Blue Bone

FAB Trio - History of Jazz in Reverse
  • Bill Evans Trio - Live at Newport 1967

I don't think I've ever heard Philly Joe Jones with Evans before. He certainly pushes the band along unlike any other on Evans' drum stool.

  • Harriet Tubman - Ascension
  • And tonight's lullaby is courtesy of Jackie McLean, ably assisted by Ornette Coleman on trumpet - New and Old Gospel.

A great album. One of McLean's best, along with Destination Out.
  • Little Feat - The Last Record Album & Feats Don't Fail Me Now
  • Iain Ballamy - Food

A wonderful jazz/electronica album, beautifully recorded, with the great Arve Henriksen on trumpet. Saturday lunchtime bliss :-)
  • Van The Man - Veedon Fleece
  • Oooh, digging that one out now. Love it!
  • One of my very favourites by the great man.

I wonder if anyone else will join us?
  • Who Was That Masked Man?
  • That was the Lone Ranger!
  • Come Here My Love...
  • Shall I Comfort You?

  • Apart from Them singles on the radio and Brown Eyed Girl I reckon Veedon Fleece was my first exposure to himself.

    It was released in 1974!!!
  • My real exposure was in 1980 when I had a flatmate who had the lot, as well as all of Beefheart's output.
  • Prince Lasha/Sonny Simmons - Firebirds
  • I have all his output now. Never been sure about Beefheart? Didn't he pass away recently?
  • I'm impressed.

I'm a massive Beefheart fan, even if I don't have much by him. Yes, he did.

    Do you know the Lasha/Simmons?
  • Nope. Never heard of her/him/they?
  • Both alto players, somewhere around Dolphy/Jackie Mclean (in his freer moments). Recorded in the early 60s, it's a minor masterpiece, according to many people. I think I agree with them.

Simmons appeared again in the mid 90s, after 20 years or so living on the street in San Francisco after some kind of breakdown, if I remember rightly. I don't know what happened to Prince Lasha.
  • Big Dolphy and McClean fan here. I'll hunt those guys out
  • I've been drawn to some more Van.

    TB Sheets

Which I understand within a few years of its release he disowned. Never knew why, I really rate it. Not the best sound quality though.

That was why I wondered if you knew it. Simmons' post-comeback albums are worth a listen, too, sometime under the band name Cosmosomatics.

I know of it, but I don't think I know it.
  • Miles Davis - The Cellar Door Sessions, Disc 2

The band with Jarrett playing electric.
  • I've been drawn to some more Van.

    Well worth it IMV
  • I'll make a note of that ;-)
  • Massive Attack - Mezzanine
  • John Martyn - Solid Air
  • Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffiti
  • Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffiti

    B-)
  • Landscape - Art Pepper
  • Landscape - Art Pepper

Don't know that one.  When was it recorded Mervyn?
  • Jim in Tokyo July 79 live set. Picked it up cheap on eBay (on Galaxy label ) and very good too !!
  • As a late Art Pepper completist, I've got that! :-)

I'll look for that one.  I love his live stuff.
  • Van Morrison - Common One

Summertime in England is a great track
  • One of his very best Jim. Up there with Madame George.
  • Very true mate!

I've been playing lots of the early stuff for a few days now. Having a terrific time.
  • Julian Cope - Peggy Suicide
  • I know nothing of Julian Cope. Is this a good one to start with?
  • Jackie McClean - McClean's Scene
  • I know nothing of Julian Cope. Is this a good one to start with?
Yes, probably one of his best in my opinion......
  • Ta for that, I'll have a go
  • Art Pepper - Gettin' Together
