  • Jackie McLean - Jackie's Bag

I bought four albums on two CDs for £6 in HMV today. Bargain!
  • Basically, it's a boot. Sorry, a personal recording :-)

I would say so.  Certainly sounds like one.
  • Abdullah Ibrahim - Round Midnight at the Montmartre
  • The Jazz Warriors - Out Of Many, One People
  • Did you ever see them live?
  • No, I wish. I know they played the Albany when I used to work round the bloody corner. I did see Sweet Honey In The Rock there though - fantastic.
  • Arthur Blythe - Basic Blythe
  • No, I wish. I know they played the Albany when I used to work round the bloody corner. I did see Sweet Honey In The Rock there though - fantastic.
I was lucky enough to see them several times. I've been inside the Albany a few times, but never for a gig.
  • Brad Mehldau - Ode

    For the second time today
  • Alice Coltrane - Radha-Krsna Nama Sankirtana

    I kid you not!

Not the best venue, but it's OK. I can only find one album by them which I've had for years. Probably bought in Lewisham as well :-)
  • I think there may have been a later live album, but I'm not sure.
  • Vijay Iyer – Panoptic Modes

I think, along with Jason Moran, Iyer is the piano star of the last few years.

They both make Brad Mehldau sound a little safe/mainstream, good though Mehldau's latest is.
  • John Renbourne - A Mediaeval Almanac
  • Arthur Blythe - Basic Blythe

Playing it again because his version of Monk's Ruby My Dear is wonderful!
  • Have you got his album of Monk covers? I think it's called Light Blue. At least, Light Blue is an Arthur Blythe album, but may not the Monk covers one.
  • No I haven't, but I'll go looking. As long as it's available on the correct medium.
  • It certainly was. I had it on vinyl, back in the day.
  • Arthur Blythe – Down Home

It's actually a Joey Baron album, but for some reason Spotti has attributed it to our saxophonist of the day.
  • Jackie McClean - McClean's Scene
  • Van Morrison - St Dominc's Preview
  • Bob Dylan - Another Side Of Bob Dylan
  • Timbuk 3 - Eden Alley
  • Beatles - Please Please Me
  • What's your preference, dahling?!  ;;)

  • :-O =))

    Phranc - Folksinger

    Another one from waaaay back.
  • Don't know that one. Should I?
  • Very good IMV. I've only got one of hers, not sure how many she made. All acoustic with vg sound quality. Modern, politically motivated folk songs. And a Bob Dylan cover, always wins points in my book.
  • Bill Evans - Everbody Digs Bill Evans

Sounds like a must for the uglymusic collection  :-\"
  • Very trudat
  • Burning Spear – Marcus Garvey/Garvey's Ghost

    I haven't heard this since I was a student, I think.

I may have to buy a copy instead of listening off Spotti.

    Aswad - Live & Direct

John Peel used to say this was his favourite live album.
  • Arthur Blythe - Exhale

Most of the Blythe albums I really like are the ones with Bob Stewart on tuba, instead of a string bass. Blythe and Stewart seem to have a magical shared pulse.

This one has Bob Stewart on tuba, although it's probably not essential Blythe.
  • Fela Kuti - Roforofo Fight/Fela Singles

    Genius from beginning to end.
  • John Renbourne - Another Monday
  • Fleetwood Mac - Rumours

    1977 :O

A great album that Sam reacquainted me with last summer when she bought it and played it all the time in the car.
  • It is a fine album despite its critics.
  • Leo Kottke - 6&12 String Guitar
  • Sod the critics! :-)
  • Trudat!

For me today is guitar day.
  • So where's the jazz guitar?
  • Miles Davis/Gil Evans - The Complete Columbia...

Let's see how far I get!
  • So where's the jazz guitar?
    Have a wild guess :)
