I often prefer mono to old stereo where stuff is panned hard left and right. A centre fill makes more sense to me.
Agree Jim. Artificial stereo sounds just like that. Funny but I have a mono Sintra at the Sands ( there is also a stereo version I believe) which sounds fabulous and almost stereo with the way it fillls the soundstage between the speakers.
As well as early jazz lots of early rock/pop i.e. Beatles, Dylan etc suffer from the same problem. It makes no musical sense to have the singer's voice hard left and his/her guitar hard right - particularly when it's only those two things going on.
I'm trying to work out the best way to fit a mono switch into my system.
A little clarity perhaps, less congestion in the mid to lower bass (an issue with small speakers). A little clean up that seemed to improve the front to back imaging in particular.
Its not night & day by any means, I just enjoyed things a bit more, it all felt a little faster. Of course, I could be imagining it all - as I said to you before I'm not that confident when trying to identify exactly what I hear.
I've got the DAC & Lightspeed on it BTW.
Also I had to disconnect and reconnect all my stiff I/Cs, which sometimes helps too.

I always enjoy hearing Dave's uglymusic as well, which is why I know its worth persevering with, even if I understand very little of it at present.
