  • Atomic - The Bikini Tapes (Disc 3)

This is where I normally launch into my blah about how fantastic anything by Atomic is. So I've done it again. Sort of. Go and buy some now :-)
  • Bugge Wesseltoft - New Conception of Jazz

I haven't played this in ages. For some reason, it sounds much better than I remember.
Oh no no no no Dave.
We clearly agreed that it's just a whole lot of nothing...
  • The only other one I have is their first, I think. It's much better, as we've said in the past.

Are there any other of their albums which are as good?
'Until Such Time' is good. It's their only live album that captures the vibrancy of the performance that I remember. Well worth owning. It's quite hard to get hold of these days mind.
The studio albums get progressively worse. So, the first is the best (and it's side 1 of that which is the better).
  • Kind of Blue.
Haven't listened to this for ages.
By gum, these guys are musicians.
  • ...amazing sound quality too.
    1959...?
I've ranted about this before, but what happened to all the good sounding studio equipment from this era? Was it destroyed in Vietnam or something...?!

    We have? I've forgotten.

I know that I thought it wasn't much good before.

    Do you have a copy?

I have the first and rediscovered it a couple of years back. Luvvit!

I'll see if I can find a copy of Until Such Time.

Young Mr. Whitey here has never got to grips with the politics, but despite this shameful omission, I do enjoy the music.
  • Now you're talking. Brilliant stuff!
  • Pat Metheny Group - American Garage

  • image
Fleetwood Mac 'Mr. Wonderful'. White men can't play the blues...?
I believe they can, and have.

Fantastic set of compilation albums these. Can't really go far with the source material mind...
  • Donny McCaslin - Seen From Above

One of rock's more worrying covers, IMHO
  • Sheila Chandra - ABoneCroneDrone
  • Pat Metheny - Unity Band

I was a bit scathing about this the other day, but having played it loud on the big rig this evening (I'd only played it in the office, or as background while doing other stuff), I think it's much better than I gave it credit for. But it's still not 80/81 ;-)
  • Kevin Bruce Harris & Militia - And They Walked Amongst The People
  • Dennis Rollins' Velocity Trio - The 11th Gate

I wasn't sure how a trombone, organ and drums trio would work over the length of a CD - especially as I'm not a huge fan of organ trios. This is excellent, though.
  • Was:

    Bill Frisell - The Willies

    Now:

    Abdullah Ibrahim - The Willies
  • Adrian Sherwood - Never Trust a Hippy

    Well, I've finally got there...
  • And? Whaddayafink?
  • Older stuff very good, newer stuff a bit uninspiring. Well worth the purchase price. Thanks for the heads up!
  • Yeah. I think you're probably right. The more mainstream stuff is less interesting, almost by definition.

    Gladulike!
  • David Torn - Prezens

Still sounds as good as it did when it came out a couple of years or so back. I wish these guys would make another.

    interesting blends and beats...
  • Never heard of him. And neither has Spotify, so I'll have to remain ignorant :-(
  • Nik Baerstch's Ronin - Ritual Groove Music

Playing while I get the new Live album AIFFed and on to the NAS.
  • Nik Baerstch's Ronin - Live (24-bit)
  • Atomic - Retrograde
  • Floetry. Flo'Ology amongst a lot else today.

Bit of a desert island disc for me. And -

Wow. I do like a decent concept album...
  • Alan Skidmore, Mike Osbourne & John Surman - SOS

Chris McGregor - Sea Breezes (Solo piano. Live in Durban, 1987)

Another fantastic chunk of live solo piano from the South African the world forgot. This one has just come out. Again, it's great to see this stuff appearing.
  • Ambrose Akinmuse - When The Heart Emerges Glistening

I can't help thinking that it's an image I could do without.

    United Future Organisation, first album.
C'mon, any band that look this cool/wanky have got to be worth a listen... B-)

    Well shame on Spoti.
Freddy Fresh is a credible and highly serious musician, attracting the highest of critical acolades. Look here he is recieving such acolades from members of the musical intelligencia...

Dave, does Nik Baerstch attract this kind of class of fan base? I think not.
  • Unfortunately not :-(
  • Stan Tracey - Sound Check CD1 (Duos)

Amazed by this. I've never been much of a Stan fan, but this is really good, with the man sounding much better than his usual Monk on an off-day schtick. Although Monk is there, of course. Too much of a habit to give up?
  • Stan Tracey - Sound Check CD2 (Trios)

Nope. He's back in his comfort zone again.

Chris McGregor - Sea Breezes (Solo piano. Live in Durban, 1987)

Note to Col: this is a piano album. What's it worth not to play it on Friday? :-)
  • Alice Coltrane "Translinear Light".
  • Alice Coltrane "Translinear Light".
    Where did that come from?

What a great choice, Mr Ben!

My mother. A few years back.
I think she saw a documentary or something.
It's a bit free form form for me. Cracking recording tho'.

This is really the canine's danglies.

Having realised I don't have a(n ahem!) legal copy - just a knackered old tape from my student days - I've just ordered the CD from Messrs Amazon.
