  • ^ like that one.

me - solomon burke, none of us are free.
  • Henri Texier - Mosaic Man
  • Paul Bley/Gary Peacock/Paul Motian - Not Two, Not One

A stunning album. Performances, recording, the lot. You'd never believe it was Redbook.
  • Charles Mingus - Ah Um
  • Chris McGregor's Brotherhood of Breath - Chris McGregor's Brotherhood of Breath
  • J.J.Cale Shades
    Charles Mingus - Ah Um
    Nice
  • The Mingus is also a fabulous recording, IMO. I'm not much of a fan of old jazz recordings. They can sound muddy or edgy to me.

Funnily enough, I played some JJ Cale to Sam last night to compare and contrast ;-)
  • Trombone Shorty - Backatown
  • Alice Coltrane - Translinear Light
  • Was:

    Nik Baerstch's Ronin - Live (24/44.1)

    Now:

    Ali Farka Toure - Savane
  • Glenn Hughes. This time around
Nitin sawhney .last days of meaning.
  • Abdullah Ibrahim/Johnny Dyani - Echoes from Africa

Billy Bang - Vietnam: The Aftermath

What a shame Bang died before he completed his Vietnam trilogy. This, the first, is the best of the two he did record. I'd rate it amongst my favourite jazz albums recorded since 2000.
  • Avram Fefer - Eliyahu

Another favourite. The comparatively unknown Fefer plays a blinder in this exposed trio format - as do Eric Revis on bass and Chad Taylor on drums.
  • Masada String Trio - Haborym: Book of Angels Volume 16
  • Henri Texier Strada Sextet - (V)ivre
  • Was:

Jah Wobble & Evan Parker - Passage to Hades

    Now:

James Blood Ulmer - Memphis Blood
  • James Blake - James Blake

Bill Laswell & Jah Wobble - Radioaxiom

I've been getting unfeasible amounts of bass out of the RR3s. I keep looking for the sub-woofer, but it sounds much too good for one of those :-)

Discussion about RR3s and positioning went off over here.
  • Herbie Hancock - Headhunters
  • Been listening to herbie myself and Roy Ayres :)
  • Herbie Hancock - Headhunters
I have a mate who is a session musician and has his own studio - we often chat about music. Everytime I see him - without fail - it's "Have you heard Headhunters yet?". One day I'll have to get it.

I seem to remember the recommendation came from a chat about how to 'get' modern jazz. This was the album which started it for him.
  • I'll play it to you on Monday.
  • Been listening to herbie myself and Roy Ayres :)
I don't have any Roy Ayres. What do you recommend?
  • Miles Davis - Ascenseur Pour L'echafaud

One of the great Miles albums, IMHO. Recorded in Paris with French musicians, but Miles plays an absolute blinder. He was in love and enjoying the liberal atmosphere of bohemian Europe.

    F***ing weird man.
Got in from chopping wood a few minutes ago and I just stuck on Zero7 'when it falls' and logged in to post as such.
Must be something in the air.
    Real Sunday tunes.

  • Was:

Henry Threadgill's Zooid - Up Jumped the Two Lips

    Now:

    Jackie McLean - Destination Out
  • Roy Ayres
Try mystic voyage and everybody loves the sunshine.
  • Thanks. I know ELTS, the track, of course.

    Dianne Reeves
    Y&t
    Jim Mullen
  • Dianne Reeves - check!
    Y&T - who the heck?
    Jim Mullen - check!
  • David S Ware - Go See The World

What a loss this man's death is. He was really head and shoulders above all the post-Coltrane tenor players.
  • Cannonball Adderley - Cannonball's Sharpshooters
  • Billy Jenkins - Jazz Gives Me The Blues
  • Chicago Underground Duo - Age of Energy
  • Matana Roberts - The Chicago Project

Thanks Dave, liking this a lot.

    Very pleasant. 'Brown Sugar' especially.

    Caveman 'The Whole 9 Yards'

Not terribly good. A poor second to their first album.
Though I can't find any evidence, I'm sure the DJ is different. He certainly looks different and his music is different.

    It's turning into hip-hop night...
    Gravediggaz 'Niggamortis'
I'm not a huge fan of US hip-hop, or concept albums, but this is genius. Love it.

Watching the US elections on silent with subtitles, listening to this. I love Beth Orton, I have never heard anything by her that doesn't transport me somewhere else,

Thanks Dave, liking this a lot.
    Yeah. It's pretty good.

Someone mentioned it here - @Brumjam? - and I Spotified it.
  • Art Ensemble of Chicago - The Meeting

...With my newly replaced tweeter in the left RR3. What a difference to have it at full level again.though it's slightly spitty at the moment.

And a very fine album to run it in on, if I may say, sir!
  • Dub Terror Exhaust - Automaton

    I kid you not!
  • It's all got a but ugly...
Nick Bartsch and then Alice Coltrane.
