I used to have the strawberry one! A strange kind of genius they were.
Indeed - some really well-crafted 'pop' songs with well-grounded musical structure. Great fun, and a really dynamic recording too (mine's on vinyl). Best played REALLY loud too!
PS - you got a fast sale on that DAC mate! Result!
Didn't think it'd take long - DM's seem to go quite quickly. Bought Si's hot-rodded CA 840C so looking forward to hearing how that sounds - it'll be used mostly for its dac. Picking that up from his place tomorrow.
You can tell him I'm loving his battery pack for the Young DAC then - you'll get to hear his too. Perhaps you might tell him we've got quite a discussion going over the Young's power supply now - he's welcome to join in. Some more technical knowledge might be a good thing, and he seems very capable.

Any idea what Si's done to it Richard?
Jim - Si's done the following (Chevron Audio did the work I believe)...
1. High accuracy Tentlabs XO module, supplied by a local 5v tentlabs shunt module- a bit more toe tappy.
2. Paul Hynes regulator for the digital line on the DAC chips, decoupled from the analogue line- signifcant improvement in replay across the board, removal of glare.
3. Balanced outs, disconnected for better sound and reduced power supply noise- quieter ground plane.
4. Output stage rebuilt with Analgoue Devices high bandwidth low noise opamps and LM4562's with additional decoupling. Entire stage biased into class A.
5. RCA plugs replaced with solid Silver CMC rcas' and wired direct to the board with 4n silver in cotton braid.
Love it. I have two or three meters (they were the house band in Allen Toussaint's studio for years) - from memory I have Cabbage Alley & rejuvenation, maybe another one somewhere. The only Neville I have is Aaron Neville's solo album 'Warm Your Heart', which is just joyous & beautifully recorded. Apart from copious Dr John I also have Allen Toussaint's 'The Bright Mississippi' & the earlier 'From a Whisper To A Scream'. Check out the little instrumental 'Either' from this. It follows the track 'Everything I Do Gohn Be Funky' and he was not lying.
So yeah - I quite like it. Enjoying some luscious texture on those funky bass-lines right now. B-)

I've just bought a mint vinyl copy for a fiver inc. postage.
I'l let you know how it goes.
I was the only bidder at £1.99 and he wanted £3 postage.
;-)
I was a teenager when that was out - lyrics like that don't leave hormone drenched kids...

Should be good hopefully!
