I had it on lp years ago. I'm thinking of snagging it on CD as I'm really enjoying it on Spotti - I'm not sure if it's been remastered or whether my student system was just crap, but the musicianship and arrangements are really coming through.
Now, if we're talking rhythm sections, as we were over on the Bassists discussion, what about Little Feat's? I remember struggling to figure out what they were doing when I heard them back in the 70s, that loose/tight funky thing.
Brendan Perry 'Ark' (2010), first listen, nothing special, the tracks that I have live recordings of from the official Dead Can Dance 2005 live releases are good, but the rest sounds a little flat. Only for completists.
Nope, never even heard of him until you mentioned him, I think I'll have to order a couple to get me started. Would you recommend the above two as the best place to start?
If you like the 'best of', that's a good one. And I love Message From Home, even if some Sanders purists don't.
Otherwise, his classic is Karma, which is nearly all one track - The Creator Has a Masterplan - which you'll probably recognise.
He has put out a lot of stuff that's either not very exciting or paint-stripping free jazz (of which there are better examples around), so it's best to be a little careful.
Finest is proving hard to get a good price. I think I'm going to chance it with one of the big vendors like Tesco or Zavvi & put up with the long delivery time (or not at all).
Message from home is in the basket already, and I just stumbled on a Don Rendal disc I am tempted by, a reissue of Roarin'. It'll be a bit of a chance (I don't have any of his music), but he's a great bloke. Perhaps I'll sleep on that one.
I haven't heard it for over a year now, first play since my rig went 'ultra high fidelity'. Every track like an old friend, John's poetry resonant & poignant. 'Don't want to know' is a perfect moment in time.
Lyle Lovett - Pontiac.
Shatters the mood, but more story telling. Third (& last) whiskey now, so this ends the evening with a smile. :-D

Will be: John Martyn - Cooltide
Jusy over two years since he died - damn shame.

Utter bliss!
Dif Juz 'Extractions' some gentle mid 80's 4AD jangly guitar backgrounds. Hadn't heard this for years, saw it on Amazon.
Nice Mervyn! vinyl?
