  • I hope that Adele is as good as I think it is, because I'm sure I'm going to buy it soon.
  • At the moment...

    Tchaik 5 (Batiz/LPO on Nimbus S.A.M 45 rpm). :)
  • James 'Blood' Ulmer - Memphis Blood: The Sun Sessions

Have you taken her around the block on Spotti?
  • How very dare you!

  • The older album (19) is on spotti - I have it on now & it is perfectly decent. There is a compelling quality about her brand of pop.
  • Debbie Harry - Koo Koo !
  • Anouar Brahem - The Amazing Eyes of Rita

I've enthused about this one before - on another forum - and some people said they liked it, so I'll recommend it again. North African/jazz music that just sucks you in. The playing is brilliant and it's the usual great-sounding ECM production - the bass clarinet sounds so organic you can almost smell the manure around its roots :-)

(And no jokes about BS - you know who you are :-) )
  • >gasp!< >:/
  • Art Pepper - The Trip

Comments on another forum have warned about the high levels of compression, if you want it on CD be warned that it had probably been mastered with MP3 sales in mind.

I think the vinyl is from the same mastering too.

Here is an image someone has made of the waveform, thank to Blueknowz.

Personally with such a lack of quality in the audio, I would say the product is not fit for sale. I would not advocate getting an illegal download of an album made with quality in mind, but in the case of this level of compression I would choose other options.

Just thought I would warn you.

Hmmm - nasty, but no surprises. Florence & the Machine is almost unlistenable for this very reason. I'll maybe just stick to enjoying it over the radio in the car.

Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals - Burn To Shine

A really interesting alternative rock album, love it's diversity & outright genius. Bob Katz has this on his shortlist of really well mastered albums - it has very little dynamic compression.

The Young is giving an inspired insight on the two bass lines on the first track.
  • Elmore James - Blues After Hours.

  • Morph The Cat next?
  • Anouar Brahem - Conte de l'incroyable amour
  • Anouar Brahem/John Surman/Dave Holland - Salvator Kirche, Duisberg, 19 March 2000
  • My much prized signed copyimage
  • Art Pepper - The Trip

Where Pepper's alto sounds much less smooth than usual - he sounds like a free player most of the time, tone-wise.
  • Disc three from this setimage

  • I've got that set - in the nice copper bound book, right? I only just ripped it last week & have yet to give it a first play. I hope it's good!

Rudresh Mahanthappa & Bunky Green - Apex

What an amazing display of alto fireworks! If you've liked Steve Coleman or Greg Osby, grab this with both hands (ears?).

I've just had this on spotti while doing paperwork. It's really rather nice - I must decide whether to buy it now.

BTW your sig: 106 miles overnight @ 8 hrs = 13.25 MPH. Rock & Roll! (Must be the sunglasses)

    Yeah. It's OK, isn't it?

Do you have any EST? He was their drummer before Esbjorn Svensson's death.

I'll have a word with the drivers. They should be able to drive faster than that. Even with the sunglasses ;-)
