Perhaps it's time for me to reassess David Murray. I've been really enjoying this album over the past month I've had it. Murray always seemed to me to over-promise (the critics love him) and under-deliver (the albums I have tend to disappoint).
Saying that, putting the TT album on came about from a convo we were having at work today - discussing some of the talentless female 'artistes' who populate the music industry these days, and bemoaning those who came and went who could actually write a damn good song. Ms Tikaram most definitely falls into the latter category - beautifully crafted songs, a tad formulaeic in structure perhaps but still very fine.
Cracking production too, and some really nice playing from her backing band.
Seems she's still around though - and looking a wee bit gorgeous too as it happens.
Sclavis' masterpiece, IMO. Completely unclassifiable, or is it just 21st Century European Jazz? It certainly has little to do with what's going on in the States.
An early appearance from alto player Steve Coleman in a slightly odd trio, featuring cello rather than bass. Probably only for Steve Coleman fans, but quite a nice album, nonetheless.
James Blood Ulmer - Music Speaks Louder than Words
Blood's avant funk/jazz stuff. A new addition here at UM Towers, so it still needs a few more plays before I figure out where it lies in the Blood pantheon.

B-)
Having listened to the two recent outings from Elbow, I still rate this as the best album to date.
Lizzy - peel sessions..............this is rather good !
\:D/ :-cXTC - Mummer
Peter Gabriel - Full Moon Club (loads of rare stuff)
Blackfield - Welcome to my DNA (disappointing, this one)

Here she is...
Now: Porcupine Tree, In Absentia.
Thanks to Uglymusic for suggesting JBU - I'd never heard of him. I'm going to have to buy this and the Sun sessions as well.
