It's a shame that Lovano's two best drumming partners have passed - Paul Motian and Ed Blackwell (on this album) brought something from the sax player that few others can.
Keith Jarrett - The Koln Concert 24/96 HD download.
Better than standard?
Have just compared the opening sections and the 24/96 wins hands-down.
Now, when will ECM get round to (re-)issuing more of their material in higher quality formats? I think I've bought everything I want that they've released so far.
I worry how much Lovano's themed albums - Charlie Parker, Caruso etc - are dictated by Blue Note's marketing ideas, rather than the sax player's musical direction.
Chris Speed/Oscar Noriega/Trevor Dunn/Jim Black - Endangered Blood
Chris Speed isn't ay favourite sax player, but this is a great band and a great album. Jim Black's drumming is everywhere, but doesn't overwhelm the others, somehow.
