Depends on who you believe. I love it, because for my money, Jarrett's American Quartet was one of the best jazz groups ever. Full stop.

    Here's the longer-winded story:

At the time EOTH was released, it was pretty much slated as it was a three-sided double LP(!), and lots of reviewers thought the performances were crap - see the Penguin Jazz Guide for the standard view.

However, over the years, as the view on the American Quartet has changed (at the time, Jarrett's European Quartet was always thought to be the better of his two bands, a POV I never adhered to) people have started to rate the album. For the 21st Century view of the album and the band, see some of Ethan Iverson's writings - the pianist with the Bad Plus is an erudite fan of this band and claims that many younger jazz musicians think this band is the dog's bollocks.
  • Miles Davis - Saturday Night At The Blackhawk

    Wonderful version of Autumn Leaves
  • Ooooh, Leo Kottke.  I've got a few of his early albums on vinyl.  Great player.
  • I think it could be Acoustic Day, as well as Live Album Day and Second Album Day.
  • One at a time, I can't keep up!
  • You started it!
  • Trudat :((
  • MMW - Electric Tonic

    Live of course
  • David S Ware Quartet - Live in the World (Disc 1)

    Er, it's live.
  • As @Jim is still in bed recovering from what I did to his Supravoxes yesterday, I'm going to set the theme for today's listening: trios. So choose Cream, the Bill Evans Trio, or the White Stripes plus a guest :-)

    To kick off:

    John Abercrombie/Dave Holland/Jack DeJohnette - Gateway.
  • Bloody cheek. I've was up at the crack of dawn (nice girl)

My vote is for Mr Evans
  • I've had it with speakers for the moment
    :O

So I'm listening to the lovely tones of my table saw as I finish my Moth RCM.

Photos when done if anyone's interested.

  • Trios, eh?

New to me, but a great sound. They put me in mind of the Fully Celebrated actually.

Sly & The Family Stone - There's a Riot Going On

Wadada Leo Smith with a great band - Vijay Ayer on keys, John Lindbergh on bass and Ronald Shannon Jackson on drums. Smith is still worrying away at Miles' electric legacy and writing great music.
  • @Jim. You're slacking. What's the theme for today's moo-sick?
  • Easy. Today is clean LP day =))
  • Davy Graham - Folk, Blues & Beyond

No clicks, or background mush on this one. It sounds fantastic :-)
  • Did it take long to clean? :D
  • It depends what you use.

What I hadn't realised was that Bob Cranshaw plays bass guitar on about half the tracks. I knew he plays electric, but I didn't realise he did it that early.

But it's Jim Hall's guitar that makes it for me. There are bits of genius here and there.
