Wadada Leo Smith's Golden Quartet - The Year of the Elephant
Edit: I've never been that convinced by this album, despite its good reviews. However, it's all seeming to hinge together very nicely through the Young and its associated gear.
Edit: For those of us who like such things, eh @Jim, Scorch Trio are the bassist and drummer from The Thing, but with a guitarist rather than the sax. Can you guess what it sounds like?
4 AD compilation 'Lonely is an Eyesore', not as good as I remembered, a bit of a waste of money, should have dug out the vinyl and tried that before getting the CD. The cover art is still Vaughan Oliver at his best, but I have the limited edition vinyl for that anyway.
Sun Kil Moon (Mark Kozelek) 'Admiral Fell Promises' (2010) Have seen this in a few lists of the best albums of last year, and also one of the most disappointing, but evidently that must have been by someone with no taste, so it doesn't count.
Good to see 'Somethin' Else' getting some regular play, nothing less than a masterpiece.
An absolute masterpiece, IMO, where free/avant garde jazz meets electronica and everything and everyone contributes more than the sum of their parts. The Eva/PSU combination is finding even more detail in the mix. I wish there was a 24/192 version around of this. I think I'd disappear for weeks exploring it :-)
