Mark Kozelek 'Gent 11 Feb 2011' audience recording, really lovely show.
Looking forward to the official and free* live release from last Autumn's show from Caldo Verde records in a weeks time.
    * free with any purchase, vinyl release shortly too.
  • Looking after 2 of my grandchildren so it's something called Tracy Beaker on the BBC kids channel!!
  • No wonder you don't like TV!
  • Jon Balke - Siwan

Getting to like this a lot. It's an ECM World/Jazz/semi-ambient thing.

James 'Blood' Ulmer - Memphis Blood. The Sun Sessions

Any of our resident blues fans know this? I love it.
  • Tim Berne - Insomnia
  • Tom Rainey Trio - Pool School

First play. So far sounds like Chicago/AACM-school composed/improv, rather than the NY Downtown style I was expecting.

Been playing this for the last 20 mins on spotify - Love it!

I never heard of him before.
  • Glad you like it. I particularly like I Asked For Water (She Gave Me Gasoline). Just has to be played as loud as the neighbours will take :-)

Blood played with Audio Chews' mascot, Ornette Coleman, for years and has made both avant jazz and interesting blues albums.

He has a unique guitar style that I really like.
  • Interesting bedfellows - I shall probably order some soon. Any further recommendations?
  • Try this:

A similar exercise, with the same producer and a similar band, but in Noo Orleanz.
  • Ah - can only be better then!
  • Blood, Vernon Reid and Charles Burnham make the most unholy howl  :D
  • Cannonball Adderly - Know What I Mean
  • Duke Ellington - Blues In Orbit

Red House Painters (Mark Kozelek) 'Old Ramon', one of my all time favourite albums, and I would suggest one of the most underrated albums ever.
Unederworld 'Master DAT 1993', a DAT sent to US record companies in 1993 to try and secure Underworld a US record deal, half from 'Dubnobasswithmyheadman', a B-side and a few tracks that never made the light of day, or were at least heavily reworked by the time the album came out. Superb.

I must check out some more Cannonball Adderley, what do people suggest to add to 'Somethin' Else'?
  • The Smiths - 1st Album
  • Toussaint. Life, Love and Faith.

    Ricochet
    Force Majeure

  • You're both welcome :)

    That Lowell George is terrific
  • It most certainly is/was. Gorgeious in fact.

    SSsslicK!
    B-)
  • So, do you both have Lowell George-era Little Feat to go with it?
  • I do have 'Dixie Chicken', which is funny as I was playing AT's 'Life Love & Faith earlier'; that has the original version of 'on your way down'. Little Feat covered it a couple of months later for 'Dixie Chicken', and for me the finest version was Allen Toussaint re-recording it with Elvis Costello on 'The River in Reverse', which was probably in the late nineties.
  • Dixie Chicken is great, now go buy the rest :-)
  • Enough of this pop stuff! Time for some proper ugly music:

    Sclavis/Taborn/Rainey - Eldorado Trio
  • Dixie Chicken is great, now go buy the rest :-)

All of them? Are you on commission?

    :-?

I splashed out a daft amount on a Hank Mobley CD this week - I wanted to finally try an XRCD! What a dork...It cost as much as four regular discs! (about £20)

Still it is a good album - I've never owned it yet but heard it many times: 'Soul Station'. Someoone posted it here recently & it reminded me to scratch that itch.
  • No. Just the Lowell George-era ones ;-)

    I've never had an XRCD.
  • I'll let you know if it was worth it when it arrives.

It's been a great evening, system never sounded so good.
  • You're just trying to make me feel jealous!
  • No, I've not posted any self portraits!

    :P

Jealous how - we have almost the same system these days! One of us is a trend setter....(it's probably you)
  • You have the PSU to play with!

I dunno about that. You got there with the RR3s and the Eva before I did.
  • Yup:

    Sailin Shoes
    Dixie Chicken
    Time Love a Hero
    Waitin For Columbus

Chinese Work Songs is from 2000 but has a Lowell-esque feel to it IMV.
  • I must admit that I have a few holes, but I can't remember which ones, so I'll wait until the full collection is finally ripped before I fill them.

I've never heard Chinese Work Songs, so I'll look into that.
  • Was Al Di Meola - Splendido Hotel
Is Bill Evans - Everyone Digs Bill Evans
