  • Still in the Blood groove today:

Fantastic solo stuff. I remember seeing a video on YouTube of Blood playing solo at a festival somewhere.

Blood's explicit melding of Harmolodics and the blues illuminates further the blues that's at the heart of Ornette's work.
  • Little Feat - Waiting For Columbus

'there's a fat man in the bathtub'
  • My theme tune, brother! :-)
  • You're emaciated compared to me!!
  • I have declared this Blood Thursday and Friday.

James Blood Ulmer - In and Out
  • I envy you chaps - I'm stuck in an autocad class today!

    :(

I might try & get some cheapo second hand little feat CDs though at the next quiet spot.

    Shhh...teacher's coming!
    :(|)
  • I'm at work, too. But so's the boss :-)
  • Work, work??
  • James Blood Ulmer - No Escape from the Blues: The Electric Lady Sessions
  • Philly Joe Jones - Mean What You Say
  • Gil Scott-Heron - Minister of Information
  • OK. It's now been reclassified as Guitar-led Bands Day

Mary Halvorson Quintet - Saturn Sings

This one turned up on quite a few 'best of' lists last year, and it deserves it. At times it sounds like 60s Blue Note updated to 21st Century - that's Blue Note Hard Bop as well as Blue Note Free.

    In that case...

    Mountain - Nantucket Sleighride
  • Apropos of not much, I've been to Nantucket. There were no sleighs in late October.
  • Felix Papaldri (sp) was a wild guitar player though
  • Felix was a guitar shredding cat! (time to collect my outer garments again, I think)
  • What is it with you and cats today?
  • Just getting ready for a purrfect weekend with the entirely bug-free V2 Young DAC, of course  :-D
  • Ah, of course.  Good luck with that then ;)
  • Bud Powell - Time Waits
  • Bjorkenheim/Flaten/Nilsson-Love - Scorch Trio

I must check out some more Cannonball Adderley, what do people suggest to add to 'Somethin' Else'?

    Live at The IT Club
    Live Paris 1960
    Know What I Mean
    The Black Messiah

    are my favourites from Cannonball
Jim, I have searched for 'Live at the IT club', and all I seem to find is 'Mercy, Mercy, Mercy. Live at The Club'. Is that the same recording, or can you point me towards where I can find it.

I didn't see that recording listed on his Wikipedia discography, but quite possibly an omission.
The same seems to be true for the Live Paris 1960.

  • Hi Jamie

Yup, same one mate.  Mercy, Mercy, Mercy is the third track.  The Paris live one could be called any number of things; it's been reissued more than once.  Was recorded June 1960, that should narrow it down.
  • Art Pepper - The Trip
  • Jamie Cullum - 1st Album
  • Garrard motors! Is that allowed?
  • Is that their 'difficult' second album?
  • Yes it is. What was their first album again?
  • Wasn't it a Link Wray cover, Rumble?  :)
  • Red Hot Chili Peppers - Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magick

Miraculously, without clicks and pops. Yey!
    :-D
  • Nick Drake - Pink Moon.

    Laidback thoughtful Saturday morning listening.
  • And there's me with the Chili Peppers!
  • Clark Terry - Having Fun
  • Cannonball Adderley Quintet - Live Paris 1960
  • Bill Evans Trio - Sunday at the Village Vanguard

    I wish I could get that waitress's attention. I'm parched! :-)

Lovely!  Haven't heard that in ages.
  • I'm really enjoying it with the levels pushed up nicely.

It really is the Scott LaFaro show, I feel. Although his solos are a little samey, they are still astonishing 50 years on.
  • All vinyl morning:

    Herbie Hancock - Takin' Off

Gregg Allman - Low Country Blues

Al Di Meola - Tirami Su

Now off t'pub for an afternoon of Rugby  :D

  • JJ Cale - Roll On
  • Charles Mingus -  Ah Um
  • Giovanni Trovesi all'Opera - Profumo Di Violetta (24/96)

    This shouldn't work, but does.
  • Coltrane - Live At The Village Vanguard Again!
  • Giovanni Trovesi all'Opera - Profumo Di Violetta (24/96)

    This shouldn't work, but does.

From a technical POV or an artistic one?

    An artistic one.

It's a jazz group improvising with an Italian brass band playing Opera music. I think it's really good.

A fairly normal afternoon at Ugly Towers by the sounds of it then :)

As much normality as you get round here, mate!

Rick Smith (Underworld) 'Bungalow with Stairs', limited edition from Underworldlive.com, one of my favourite ambient albums of the last few years, and Free System Projekt 'Moyland', brilliant retro electro, which I know I was supposed to add something about on the forum, will try soon.
