indeed Dave, even after all these years and thousands of plays i am still left bewildered as to how they could play with such freedom then just when you think its all going to come apart they just drop back into sinc perfectly, awesome stuff ^:)^

That was the core of Mingus' art, I think. One of the greatest jazz composers encouraged (bullied?) his bands into playing with real freedom. Brilliant selection of personnel and Dannie Richmond in the drum chair for all those years.
Hi Col, sorry but i have no idea where you will find such rarities , if i had either of the formats i would send it to you but i havent been lucky enough or rich enough to obtain them, TBH i think a hi rez download might be the only way to find it, i have seen the vinyl on ebay japan , but it went for £350.00 ish , the cd's can be had for £150.00ish sometimes , i called one digital disc collecting friend but even he doesnt have one , quite a few on Amazon but they dont state which cd version they are , http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000002481/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&me=&seller= , also at elusive disc but again i dont think any are the ones you are after, http://www.elusivedisc.com/products.asp?dept=1442 , will keep hunting , if i come across anything i will give you a shout, all the best, matt
Jason Moran and the Bandwagon meet Sam Rivers. They rip it up!
nice choons, a bit too much piano for my taste but as you say, "they rip it up"
Are you another of Col's Piano Haters, Matt?
Jason Moran is becoming one of my very favourite pianists. He has such an individual approach, mixing so many jazz and non-jazz styles as if they belonged together anyway.

i am afraid so Dave, the piano is a wonderful instrument but the guys that play them seem to feel that they should play it constantly , especially in jazz , its an odd thing but even live piano makes me uncomfortable, although i find uprights less anoying than grands or baby grands, the closest i can liken it too is when you hear a scouss or jordy lass that cant stop talking , aaaarrrrgggghhhhh!!!!! , thats exactly how i feel about the Joanna , hey , i got issues! ;-)
some more broken beat jazz turntable-ism going on next , first heard this when i got home from a 14 hour shift and a 12 hour drinking and partying session , fell in the front door ,i still cant remember it but somehow i managed to switch on my hi fi and this was being performed live on Giles Peterson's wed evening show 'world wide', powered up my old revox real to real tape deck i had at the time, fed in the tape ,set the levels and hit record, woke up two days later and noticed the tape on the machine and when i played it back this was on it ,, now have it on vinyl and its still killer.
If I bought vinyl, this one would be getting worn out.
Message to those with problems: There is no piano on this album :-)
if i could find it on vinyl i would be wearing it out, nice piece !
LOL!
I very much doubt if it has been released on vinyl. Most of this small/musician-owned label jazz is CD only. And occasionally downloads (often FLAC, when downloads are available).
Hi Matt you must bring me good luck, in a junk shop on Saturday I found a copy of "Jazz at the Porn Shop" CD unopened. Are you ready for a £1.00 , I am listening now great stuff.
Guess what there is the dreaded piano thing on it to and it sound well not to bad he he

hey Dave, yeah it took me by surprise too , Mr Albarn is proving to be a real force in the British and world music scene , i have had this LP since its day of release and havent tired of it at all, enjoy mate, regs, matt
Another great album from The Fully Celebrated Orchestra - this time a quartet with Taylor Ho Bynum on cornet.
They are criminally under-recorded, IMO. They've been around since the mid-80s, but I'm struggling to find more than four albums (and one of those is by the core line-up, but the band is called The Jim Hobbs Trio).
